Lam Dong breaks through to become the growth pole of the region

Lam Dong province has the largest natural area in the country, converging all the potentials and advantages from sea, forest, seaport, border gate... along with the heritage system, scenic spots opening up a large space for development. With that advantage, Lam Dong is facing the opportunity to break through to become a dynamic growth pole of the region in the new period.

The 1st Congress of Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, is a historical milestone of the locality after the process of arrangement and merger; expected to open a new development path, step by step building Lam Dong province to develop prosperously and sustainably.

Development platform

According to the assessment of the Provincial Party Executive Committee for the period 2020-2025, Lam Dong's economy continues to develop; the scale and quality of growth are improved in a sustainable direction; the GRDP economic growth rate is quite good. The material and spiritual life of people in rural areas, remote areas, islands, and ethnic minority areas is improved. The economic structure is gradually shifting towards modernization. The energy industry is an important driving force for growth; the aluminum and aluminum processing and production industry is gradually asserting its position; the titanium deep processing industry is invested; the infrastructure of industrial parks and clusters is gradually completed.

Tourism continues to be affirmed as a driving force and spearhead economic sector, making an important contribution to socio-economic development. The socio-economic infrastructure system has been improved. Up to now, two key projects have been implemented: Operation of the eastern North-South Expressway (Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet-Dau Giay section); commencement of construction of Bao Loc-Lien Khuong Expressway. In addition, 17 projects have completed procedures and are implementing investment and construction activities; 12 projects are carrying out investment preparation procedures, including Tan Phu-Bao Loc Expressway, North-South Expressway section Gia Nghia-Chon Thanh... Lam Dong province has a natural area of over 24,000 km², with 103 communes, 20 wards and Phu Quy special zone; population of over 3.87 million people; converging all the potentials and strengths of the highlands, midlands and coastal regions. Comrade Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation affirmed: "The merger of the three provinces of Lam Dong, Binh Thuan , and Dak Nong into the new Lam Dong province is a historic opportunity to maximize the potential and advantages of each region, creating a new, larger and stronger development space."

Many experts believe that the merger is not only to reorganize administrative boundaries, but also to create new development space, strategic development solutions; optimize resources, exploit economic potential, promote regional linkages, form large economic centers, create conditions to enhance competitiveness and attract investment, in line with the trend of international integration. Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Development Planning Association Tran Ngoc Chinh said: "The reorganization of economic space associated with the development of the urban system in this inter-region will contribute to building a new economic driving force in the southern Central Highlands and the South Central Coast."

Lam Dong has many advantages, notably high-tech agriculture; tourism, resorts; marine economy; renewable energy... and the potential to develop research, education and health care centers. The connection between major cities such as Da Lat-Gia Nghia-Phan Thiet opens up an effective cross-regional development axis. Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Muoi said: "Lam Dong has forests, seas, border gates, seaports, becoming the capital of a number of industrial crops, fruit trees and bauxite industry. This is a great potential for Lam Dong to develop; a golden opportunity to form a new growth pole, with a large enough scale, strong enough driving force and deep enough influence, contributing to leading the green economic trend, sustainable development for the region and the whole country".

Strategic breakthrough

In the period of 2025-2030, Lam Dong Provincial Party Committee determined the goal: Building a clean and strong Party Committee; leading comprehensive development, taking stability as the foundation for development, taking socio-economic development as the central task, taking happiness and prosperity of the people as the goal to strive for; by 2030, Lam Dong will become a fairly developed province, one of the new growth poles of the region in the era of national development.

Specifically, the province strives to achieve an average GRDP growth rate of 10 to 10.5% in the 2025-2030 period; GRDP per capita of 6,700 to 7,500 USD by 2030; Human Development Index (HDI) of about 0.75; striving to have basically no poor households by 2030. To realize the goal, Lam Dong focuses on three breakthroughs: Mobilizing all resources to invest in building and developing a synchronous and modern infrastructure system; promoting administrative reform, focusing on people and businesses; strongly innovating personnel work.

The overall picture of Lam Dong’s socio-economic development is now quite clear. The connection between the highlands, midlands and coasts helps to form an inter-industry value chain, a chain of linked urban areas, unique eco-tourism, resort and cultural areas, creating a space for interconnected, effective and sustainable development.

Provincial Party Secretary Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam said: The development message to turn Lam Dong into a new growth pole of the region is green-smart tourism; application of high technology-green technology is the foundation in production, business and services; connecting traffic-inter-regional infrastructure is the driving force. The province will promote synchronous investment in key traffic routes, effectively connecting the plateau, midland and coastal areas; upgrading Lien Khuong international airport, putting Phan Thiet airport into use to expand domestic and international connections.

Currently, the province is synchronously implementing solutions to attract investment, improve the business environment, develop regional transport infrastructure and build digital government, in order to create the most favorable environment for businesses and people.

From a solid socio-economic foundation with potential, strengths and appropriate strategic orientation, Lam Dong is gradually realizing its aspiration to become a new growth pole, a high-tech agricultural economic-tourism center of the region, a livable, green, friendly and affectionate place.
