Lam Dong: Develop a plan to overcome landslides and ensure people's safety

On the afternoon of October 22, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Le Trong Yen and related units came to conduct a field survey to develop a plan to overcome the serious landslide incident at the resettlement area of ​​K'No 5 village (Dam Rong 4 commune) after the recent rains.

The working group conducted a field survey and assessed the situation at landslide and subsidence points in the resettlement area of ​​K'No 5 village. Among them, there was a serious landslide section with a length of about 80m, the volume of landslide was nearly 200m3, directly affecting 5 houses. Many outbuildings were tilted and swept away.

At the scene, Mr. Le Trong Yen requested the local authorities to prioritize ensuring the safety of people's lives, arrange regular forces on duty, and propagate and mobilize affected households to move to safe places. In the long term, the Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee requested to consult experts and have a plan for geological exploration drilling. Departments and branches coordinate to research, evaluate, and appraise funding to promptly implement landslide remediation, ensuring stable lives for people.

As reported by VNA on October 16, the resettlement project in K'No 5 village was "surrounded" by landslides after continuous rains, causing dozens of households to feel insecure and anxious. This project has a scale of more than 15 hectares, a total investment of 35.7 billion VND, and a population of 400 - 600 people. The project has completed the construction of phase 1 infrastructure, handing over land to 73 households to build houses since 2020. Currently, phase 2 is being implemented with items such as leveling the ground, roads, drainage ditches, electricity, water and lighting systems with a total cost of nearly 24 billion VND.

After the landslide, local authorities and project investors have implemented a number of temporary solutions such as covering the embankment behind the houses of 15 affected households with tarpaulins; clearing drainage ditches; placing warning signs, putting up ropes to restrict traffic, and assigning people to monitor and be ready to handle any incidents.
