Spreading the message of anti-food waste and environmental protection in schools

According to the United Nations, about one-third of global food is wasted each year, equivalent to more than 1.3 billion tons, while millions of people still go hungry. In Vietnam, on average, each person throws away about 85 kg of food each year. This situation shows unsustainable consumption habits and the urgent need to take action to reduce waste and protect resources for the future.

With the message “Small actions - Big changes”, the program calls on each individual, especially students, to start with simple actions such as eating just enough, not wasting food, classifying trash and reusing resources, and joining hands to build a Vietnam without food waste.

The event attracted more than 1,700 students to participate in interactive activities, learning about food waste prevention, waste classification and resource recycling. Through games, practical instructions and visual models, students experienced the process of classifying, collecting and processing organic and inorganic waste, thereby raising awareness and forming green and economical living habits.

“We want every student to become a “food hero”, to appreciate every meal and together reduce waste. When students change, the whole community will change. That is how we build a sustainable green future, starting from school,” said Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoi, Chairman of the Vietnam Food Bank Network.

Priest Nguyen Van Thuong, Director of Caritas Thanh Hoa, commented that this activity is a harmonious combination of education, environmental protection and humanitarian spirit, contributing to spreading green lifestyle to the young generation.
