Leaders of the Party, State, and Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front visit Most Venerable Deputy Supreme Patriarch Thich Tri Tinh

On the afternoon of October 10, at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda, Xuan Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, a delegation of leaders of the Party, State, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, Vice President of the National Assembly, visited Most Venerable Elder Thich Tri Tinh, Deputy Dharma Master of the Council of Patriarchs, Vietnam Buddhist Sangha - the leader of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha who passed away on October 8, at the age of 94 (74 years of monastic life).

Writing in the condolence book, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh said that the monastic life of Most Venerable Thich Tri Tinh is a shining example of dedication to taking care of both religious and secular affairs for generations of monks, nuns and Buddhist followers in Vietnam to follow. With the responsibility of Vice Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, an exemplary citizen, Most Venerable has always shown patriotism, participated in leading and guiding the activities of the Sangha, monks, nuns and Buddhists to unite, bond, and actively participate in building and protecting the Fatherland. In any position, Most Venerable has always shown a spirit of service, dedicating his whole life to the Dharma and the nation.

“The passing of the Most Venerable is a great loss to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Vietnamese monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers at home and abroad, and to society. On behalf of the leaders of the Party, the State, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and with my personal feelings, I sincerely offer my condolences to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, disciples, Dharma relatives, family members, and fellow Buddhists,” wrote Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh.

Venerable Elder Thich Tri Tinh, secular name Lam Dinh Dao, born in 1932 in Nam Dinh province, now Ninh Binh province, was honored as Vice President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Council at the 8th National Buddhist Congress in 2017. Venerable Thich Tri Tinh is a high-ranking dignitary in the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, with great prestige among monks, nuns and Buddhists. Throughout his monastic life, Venerable Thich Tri Tinh has always been an example of uniting monks, nuns and Buddhists; contributing to leading the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha firmly with the motto: "Dharma - Nation - Socialism", implementing the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws, actively participating in patriotic emulation movements for the community.

The contributions of Venerable Thich Tri Tinh to the country have been recognized by the State and awarded the National Great Unity Medal and many certificates of merit from central and local ministries, departments and branches.

It is expected that the memorial service for Most Venerable Elder Thich Tri Tinh will be solemnly held by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha at 5:00 a.m. on October 12, followed by the procession and escorting of the coffin to the stupa at Linh Phong Thien Uyen, Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
