On the plane, remember not to wear open-toed shoes.

Most airlines do not have an official dress code, but there are some guidelines on what should and should not be worn on a plane to ensure cleanliness, comfort and convenience.

According to Travel and Leisure , there are even certain mandatory dress codes that you need to adhere to when flying, or you could be removed from your flight.

Open-toe shoes

If you're traveling to a warm-weather destination , wearing flip-flops or sandals on the plane can be comfortable, but you should consider carefully.

Bobby Laurie, travel expert and former flight attendant, said Carpets and the area under the seats of airplanes take a long time to be cleaned and sanitized thoroughly, so avoid wearing open-toed shoes. Also, always wear shoes in the restroom because the liquid on the floor may not be just water.

Offensive clothing

Most airlines reserve the right to refuse boarding to passengers who are wearing offensive clothing. The language of the policy is often vague, but it usually refers to clothing that is vulgar or offensive.

If the airline considers your attire offensive, you may be asked to change. If you refuse, you may be removed from the flight.

Sleepwear

Everyone wants to be comfortable when flying, but since you're still in a public place, it's best not to wear pajamas to the airport and on the plane.

“Wear loose-fitting, elastic-waist pants,” says Susan Fogwell, a former flight attendant with 22 years of experience. The only exception is if you’re flying business class and are given pajamas to wear during the flight, which you can simply change back into before landing.

Swimwear

Hawaiian Airlines is one of the few airlines that has a clear dress code, which specifically prohibits swimsuits. If you insist on wearing a swimsuit on the flight, you can add a light robe over it.

Wear only one layer of clothing

You can never predict how the temperature will change on a plane, so wearing just one layer, whether it's a tank top or a thick sweater, isn't a good idea. "Wear layers so you can stay warm if you're cold, and shed layers if you're hot," says Bobby Laurie.

Bulky metal jewelry

When traveling, keep bulky metal jewelry in your carry-on. Never check any valuables in your checked luggage. You will likely have to remove them at airport security, causing inconvenience not only to you but also to those in line behind you.

Keep expensive watches in a protective case when traveling. If you wear an engagement ring, consider purchasing a dummy ring to wear while traveling in case it is lost or stolen.

Perfumes and fragrances

Be respectful of passengers who may be sensitive to scents and avoid wearing strong perfumes or colognes. In a confined space like an airplane cabin, your favorite scent can easily be carried around and may be unpleasant to others. Remember that not everyone has the same taste as you, not to mention health issues.
