Teacher, Meritorious Artist Mang Thi Hoi was born in 1948, a member of the Bana ethnic group. Since childhood, she was lulled to sleep by her mother with revolutionary songs and immersed in the sounds of gongs under the Kônia tree.
In 1965, her father - Mr. Mang Thoong received the decision to go to B, before leaving he wished his daughter to pursue a music career. Following her father's advice, she took the entrance exam to the Vocal Faculty of the Vietnam Music School (now the Hanoi Conservatory of Music).
In 1973, she graduated from university. The song "Konia Tree Shadow" by the late musician Phan Huynh Dieu was chosen by her teacher Thuy Huyen (wife of People's Artist Tran Hieu) for her graduation exam.
The song seemed to be written specifically for her high-pitched, emotional voice, helping her get the highest score in that year's graduation exam.
She recalled that when the school organized a performance in Thai Nguyen , when she sang "Konia Tree Shadow", Thai Nguyen Stadium exploded with applause from the audience.
In 1974, the Head of the Tay Nguyen People's Song and Dance Troupe came to the Vietnam Music School to invite Mang Thi Hoi to join the troupe. In 1978, she moved to the South and officially taught at the Vocal Music Department - Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
She is both a singer and a teacher. When performing in public or teaching students, in any environment, her voice with a wide, clear range always captivates people. And the song "Konia Tree Shadow" has been with her for many years. In the program Con duong am nhac on VTV3, the late musician Phan Huynh Dieu - the "father" of this song once commented that no one has sung this song better than Mang Thi Hoi.
November 11 is the birthday of musician Phan Huynh Dieu. She said that tomorrow she will go to his house to burn incense to commemorate the talented musician.
There is a story that she has heard that she will never forget: two young men volunteered to go to the war zone to become soldiers after hearing her singing.
Among the students she has helped train are many famous singers such as: People's Artist Ta Minh Tam, singer Dam Vinh Hung, Quang Dung, Hien Thuc, My Tam, Thanh Su, Thanh Thuy, Thu Minh, Mai Thien Van, Phuong Trinh...

Although she was a very loving and devoted teacher to her students, she was also famous for being very strict in teaching. Singer Dam Vinh Hung recalled: "Ms. Hoi was extremely strict, so the first day I came to Ms. Hoi's class, I was so scared that I couldn't sing... But that teacher had a strangely attractive way of teaching. That's why I threw myself into studying and practicing my voice... In class it was like that, but during breaks, the teacher and student were like mother and son.
In front of her students, she always has sharp and accurate comments, pointing out weaknesses for students to overcome. This teaching method is very easy to understand, accurate in sound position as well as how to control breathing, can sing 10-15 songs at a time but still protect the longevity of her voice because according to her, practicing vocals in music is also somewhat similar to practicing qigong. But the most important thing is that she always conveys to her students the emotions of each song and the compositional context of each author."
Singer Thu Minh confided: "The person I was influenced by and never forgot was Ms. Hoi. Whenever I had any joy, the first person I called to tell her the good news was her. I always kept in mind what she taught me, in terms of professional knowledge, she did not teach the students tricks to quickly stand out, but taught them a solid foundation so that they could go a long way on their own two feet...".

After retirement, she continued to teach music at home. Occasionally, she also shared her voice training and performance style experiences with young singers.
She is the image of a dedicated educator who loves her job. Singing with all her heart, she was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist and "Medal for the cause of education" by the State. She believes that the award of "Mai Vang Tri An" has given her more joy and motivation to continue to contribute and do better in her work as a grower in the garden of art.
