(NLDO) - From subject transcripts, interests, and future human resource needs, students can find suitable majors through artificial intelligence (AI).

On October 4, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the Viet Culture Connection Company and the Ho Chi Minh City Student Support Center jointly organized the opening ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year career orientation program with the theme "Who decides your future" at Nguyen Thi Dieu High School (Xuan Hoa Ward). This activity attracted nearly 600 grade 12 students to attend.

The program provides information about the high school graduation exam, AI application skills in choosing a major, future career trends and school psychology during exam season. The event has the participation of experts from universities under the National University of Ho Chi Minh City, Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, University of Architecture of Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon International University, Hung Vuong University of Ho Chi Minh City, etc.

Dr. Le Thi Thanh Mai, former Head of Student Affairs Department of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that nearly 80% of students now use AI for studying, but most of them only "deal with" teachers; only about 2.4% know how to take advantage of this tool for career orientation.

Dr. Mai emphasized that AI is a huge database of majors, universities, and jobs that can help students make their choices. However, to avoid being “lost,” students need to know how to ask questions, filter information, and combine it with advice from teachers, the press, and career guidance programs to get the most complete and accurate picture.

During the Q&A session, many students were interested in the prospects of computer science , marketing and AI applications in life. Experts recommend that in addition to choosing a “hot” major, students need to equip themselves with lifelong learning capacity, soft skills and adaptability to flexibly change careers in the face of rapid fluctuations in the labor market.

Pham Mai Ngoc Huyen, a student of class 12A4, said she is interested in English Language, International Relations and Economic Law. After listening to the teachers, Huyen realized that AI should only be considered a supporting tool in career orientation, and students must proactively learn and look up more information to choose the right path for the future.

Dr. Nguyen Duc Nghia, former Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that although the Ministry of Education and Training has not yet announced the 2026 Enrollment Regulations, and universities have not yet had a new school year enrollment plan, candidates are still proactive in reviewing scientifically and seriously, not waiting until the last minute to jump.

According to Dr. Nghia, the 2026 high school graduation exam will take place on June 11 and 12, half a month earlier than every year. This is the second year that candidates will take the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, and it is expected that there will be some continuations and slight adjustments. For example, geography will have some changes in teaching due to the change of new administrative boundaries.

After the program ended, many students still stayed in the school yard to ask for further advice.
