Mbappe could go to Liverpool instead of Real

VnExpressVnExpress03/01/2024

French captain Kylian Mbappe is considering choosing Liverpool after his contract with PSG expires, instead of Real as previously rumored.

Mbappe is free to negotiate with other clubs from January, with only six months left on his contract with PSG. The Parc des Princes team still wants to keep the 25-year-old striker, but it will be difficult for Mbappe to refuse attractive offers from other clubs.

According to French newspaper Le Parisien , Liverpool are emerging as the "most dangerous and potential rival" in winning Mbappe's signature. The English team has not been mentioned much before, because Mbappe once expressed that he only wanted to wear the Real shirt. However, after many years of unsuccessful negotiations with the Spanish club, the French striker is ready to change his plans and move to Anfield if the opportunity arises.

Coach Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Mbappe's talent and is said to do everything he can to bring the French striker to Liverpool. Mohamed Salah's contract expires in 2025 and he has been offered a red carpet by many Saudi Arabian clubs, which could affect Liverpool's relationship with Mbappe. Liverpool could accept selling Salah to earn a large sum of money and then reinvest it to sign Mbappe in January. If they do that, they will be faster than Real, who still hope to sign Mbappe on a free transfer in the summer.

Signing Mbappe is also Liverpool's way of declaring war on Man City in the coming years. However, Le Parisien also pointed out that leaving PSG could be a risky decision for Mbappe, because the striker is being given the best conditions at Parc des Princes. There are also doubts that Real's tactics will not bring out the best of Mbappe's abilities or that the Spanish club does not have enough money to pay his salary.

Mbappe's future will depend largely on his mother, Fayza Lamari, who recently signed a contract to represent the French international once again. In October, Marca reported that Lamari would no longer represent her son due to new FIFA regulations. But that did not happen.

Recently, when asked about Mbappe's uncertain future, PSG coach Luis Enrique said: "As I have said many times before, this issue does not depend on me. I am not the right person to answer this question."

Mbappe joined PSG on loan from Monaco in the summer of 2017, before being bought outright in the summer of 2018 for $200 million. The French striker immediately became a mainstay of PSG with more than 225 goals and 100 assists in nearly 300 matches in all competitions, helping the club win five Ligue 1 titles, three French Cups, two French League Cups and two French Super Cups.

Previously, he was twice in danger of joining Real, in 2021 and 2022. The first time, the Spanish team failed to buy him because PSG refused to sell. The second time, Mbappe wanted to leave, but in the end, he extended his contract for two more years with the French team. Real is therefore very cautious with Mbappe. They do not want to fail again, because it could damage the reputation and honor of the most successful club in Europe.
