Wheelchair gift helps children with cerebral palsy 'get off the floor'

A group of volunteer students from the Rotaract Club, Chuo University, Japan, through the connection and support of the Vietnam-Japan International Exchange Organization (FAVIJA), donated 10 wheelchairs to children with cerebral palsy, helping them 'escape the floor'.

On February 15 and 16, a group of volunteer students from the Rotaract Club, Chuo University, Japan, through the connection and support of the Vietnam-Japan International Exchange Organization (FAVIJA), donated 10 wheelchairs along with necessities and cash to disabled children of the Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy in Vietnam (CPFAV).

A wheelchair gift was given to a child with cerebral palsy in Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh.

The delegation presented gifts directly to some families of disabled children in Dong Anh district, Hanoi; Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh... and directly to families of children with cerebral palsy from Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh provinces... at the headquarters of the Vietnam Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy in Hanoi.

Mr. Kobayashi Hiroki, Head of the International Committee of the Rotaract Club, Chuo University, said that the Club is a group of students participating in community activities, developing leadership skills and building professional skills. Through research, the Club learned that many disabled people in Vietnam need wheelchairs but their conditions are still difficult. With the introduction and connection from the Vietnam - Japan International Exchange Organization (FAVIJA), the Club brought 10 wheelchairs to give to children with cerebral palsy in the provinces. Before that, the wheelchairs were adjusted in size to suit each user.

"We hope that with these 10 wheelchairs assembled in the right size, each child will have convenience and comfort. We hope that in the future we can continue to expand our charity plan and make every effort so that the project can bring joy and happiness to people with disabilities in Vietnam," said Mr. Kobayashi Hiroki.

Wheelchairs were given directly to families of children with cerebral palsy from the provinces at the headquarters of the Vietnam Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy.

Places that often give away free wheelchairs to people with disabilities

Mr. Do Quang Ba, Chairman of FAVIJA, also said that every month FAVIJA regularly organizes free wheelchair donation campaigns for people with disabilities. This is the third time FAVIJA has organized charity wheelchair donation campaigns for disabled children belonging to the Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy in Vietnam.

"In the near future, we will continue to make efforts to promote our bridging role in calling on Japanese charitable organizations to donate free wheelchairs to people with disabilities, especially to families in difficult circumstances in provinces and cities in Vietnam," said Mr. Ba.

Wheelchairs are sized to fit each user before being donated to disabled children.

Ms. Dinh Thi Lan Anh, President of the Association of Families of Children and People with Cerebral Palsy in Vietnam, said that this wheelchair donation program is an activity within the framework of the "escape from the floor" project since the association was first established. Ms. Lan Anh shared that most of the parents who received wheelchairs for their children could not contain their emotions, expressing their gratitude for the sympathy and love shared from the community. There were tears of happiness while the children smiled innocently when they sat on the newly received wheelchairs for the first time...
