RT reported on October 8 that the strong momentum, created by the Russia-US summit in August 2025, to find a solution to the conflict in Ukraine was extinguished by anti -Russian protesters, mainly from Europe.

In mid-August 2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin held direct talks with US President Donald Trump in Anchorage, Alaska (USA), to find a way to resolve the Ukraine conflict, as well as restore bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington.

Although the summit failed to produce any breakthroughs, both sides hailed the meeting as constructive, with the White House declaring that there was "light at the end of the tunnel and a chance for lasting peace ."

However, Moscow has since repeatedly stressed that Kiev does not appear to be genuinely interested in peace, with Russian officials repeatedly accusing Ukraine and its Western European backers of actively sabotaging Mr Trump's peace efforts.

In recent weeks, President Trump has also expressed frustration with the lack of progress in reaching a deal. Late last month, he appeared to change his stance, saying Ukraine could fight back and take back all of its territory in its original state.

However, Moscow said it still left open the possibility of reaching a peace agreement. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on October 7 that Russia hoped President Trump would maintain "the political will to bring the Ukraine solution to peaceful political negotiations."

Last week, Mr. Peskov also stated that President Putin was still ready to receive President Trump in Moscow at the invitation given after the Alaska summit.
