According to Engadget , the Apex Legends North American tournament finals have been postponed indefinitely after hackers infiltrated matches and provided cheat tools to pro gamers. Developer Respawn shared on X that the postponement was due to 'the competitive integrity of the tournament being compromised'.
Videos of the cheating have been circulating on Twitch, showing players being able to see the location of their opponents (known as wall hacking). Even popular player ImperialHal was being interfered with by 'aimbots' - software that automatically aims accurately.

Cheating in games has been a persistent problem for EA, and many gamers feel that the company is not doing enough to combat it. On EA's main discussion page, many expressed frustration with comments like "If EA banned all cheaters, there wouldn't be enough players left to play the game" and "The real problem is the ban/suspension process." Additionally, gamers have complained about EA's focus on profit over player experience, such as increasing the price of cosmetic items.
Notably, in late February, EA laid off 5% of its workforce – equivalent to about 650 people. The Star Wars first-person shooter game being developed by Respawn was also canceled along with the staff cuts. CEO Andrew Wilson told employees at the time that EA was “simplifying the company to deliver deeper, more connected experiences for fans around the world .”
A new date for the Apex Legends North American Finals has not yet been announced, but the X post says they will "share more information soon." In the meantime, EA and Respawn will need to find a way to block hacker access and re-organize the qualifiers to ensure the tournament is fair.
