Mourinho: 'Tottenham is the only team I'm not interested in'

Italy coach Jose Mourinho said he always holds special feelings for his previous teams, except Tottenham.

Mourinho is winning the hearts of Roma fans after taking the team to two consecutive European Cup finals. However, the Portuguese coach's future at Roma is unclear, as there are many teams bigger than Roma that need to recruit people like Mourinho.

In a press conference before the penultimate round of Serie A, Mourinho was asked how he would feel if he left Roma one day. He replied: "I hope Tottenham fans don't misunderstand me, but the only team in my career that I don't feel passionate about is Tottenham. With the others, I always feel close."

Tottenham is also the only team Mourinho has left without a trophy since leading Porto 20 years ago. The 60-year-old coach was even fired just before Tottenham played the League Cup final against Man City in 2021. Explaining further why he no longer has feelings for Tottenham, Mourinho said: "Maybe because Tottenham's stadium is always empty because of Covid-19, and maybe because chairman Daniel Levy won't let me win a final."

Mourinho added that Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid, Man Utd and Roma all loved him, and he had special feelings for them too. "The day I leave Roma will be emotionally difficult, but I will always be there for the team, as I have been for all my previous teams, except Levy's team," Mourinho added.

Roma have virtually no chance of qualifying for next season's Champions League through Serie A. They are sixth, four points behind the lowest-placed Milan, with two games remaining. A more realistic target for Roma is to secure a Champions League spot by winning the Europa League. They will face Sevilla in the final on May 31 at the Puskas Stadium in Budapest, Hungary.
