At the foot of Puxailaileng Mountain in the 2720m high Truong Son range on the Vietnam-Laos border, is the home of the Mong ethnic group in Nao Ngoi commune, Ky Son district, Nghe An province. In addition to the majestic beauty of nature, visitors here are also attracted by the time-worn Samu-roofed wooden houses of the Mong people. In the past, the Mong people, like many other ethnic groups, mainly roofed their houses with thatch and palm leaves. But the lifespan of these materials was very short. Later, they learned that the Samu tree, which is everywhere in the village, is a very good material for roofing, so they used this type of wood instead.
