The Russian military announced the entry of the Northern Army into the battle in the direction of Belgorod, marking the appearance of the sixth army in the campaign in Ukraine.
This is the first time the phrase "Northern Wing" has appeared in the Russian military's daily war report. Russian forces fighting in the border area with Ukraine's Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts were previously often described simply as "state border guards".

This move marks the appearance of the sixth army in the ongoing Russian campaign in Ukraine, following the Eastern, Western, Southern, Central and Dnieper armies.
Russian and Ukrainian officials have not commented on the information.
After Russia took full control of the Avdeevka stronghold in February, Ukraine's frontline units began to worry about where Russia would attack next, as the West believed Moscow was preparing for a large-scale offensive in the summer.
Experts say the northeastern Ukrainian province of Kharkiv, which borders Russia’s Belgorod province, is a key target for Moscow. If Kharkiv falls, it would be a major blow to the morale of the country’s army and people.

Russia has recently been attacking Kharkiv daily, focusing on the enemy’s air defenses. Ukrainian air defenses in the area appear to have exhausted their resources, unable to stop the coordinated attack tactics of UAVs, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles aimed at the area.
