On the evening of July 23, Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long organized a concert to support artist Kim Le Thuy. It had been a long time since she had met her colleagues on the Cai Luong stage. During this reunion, she emotionally expressed her longing for the stage and sang a few improvised vọng cổ verses, the original version of the play "Lan and Diep" for the audience. Last night, famous theater artists reunited to sing to raise funds to help artist Kim Le Thuy with her medical treatment. People's Artist Minh Vuong congratulated artist Kim Le Thuy when they met again after many years apart. Artists Tan Sang, Binh Tinh, Tuan Thanh, Kim Tu Long, Le Tu, Ha Nhu... all expressed their joy at meeting artist Kim Le Thuy again.

The stage name Kim Le Thuy was given to her by the late artist Tan Tai during her time performing at the Tan Thu Do - Tan Tai troupe. "He was once known as the "Emperor of Plastic Records", so when he gave me the name, I considered it as being given by the "king". Just kidding, but that was the stage name my senior gave me, and he was famous, so I benefited from his influence" - the artist recounted with emotion.

After that, she shined on the stage of Kim Chuong, Xuan Lien Hoa, Saigon 3 troupes... But because of her love for her children, after working for Saigon 3 troupe, she returned to old Tien Giang (now the new Dong Thap province) to join Tien Giang troupe for about 20 years.

"When the cai luong stage fell into crisis and was no longer like its golden age, I lived a precarious life, suffering from not having enough money to buy rice, but I still quietly kept a great love for cai luong. I still hoped that one day I could return to sing on stage and meet colleagues and audiences" - Artist Kim Le Thuy said.

Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long said: "She is an artist who specializes in playing the leading female role of the Kim Chung theater troupe. She was known by the stage name Ai Hoa when she was only 14 years old and later became famous with the name Kim Le Thuy. Until today, she still maintains her singing voice, even though she has quit her career for many years, to make a living selling lottery tickets with her husband, musician Do An. Sympathizing with her situation, the audience and artists came in large numbers to support her" - Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long said.

Having suffered two strokes and many serious illnesses, she cannot go to work and can only stay at home. Musician Do An said about his wife: "She suffered two strokes and now has all kinds of illnesses, from kidney to liver, all kinds of illnesses, but she still tries to walk. Today, being able to sing for the audience and meet colleagues, my wife and I are very happy."

Despite her difficult life, many illnesses, and difficulty in traveling, artist Kim Le Thuy remains optimistic. She confided: "I pray for the opportunity to sing, that would be a great happiness."

The couple currently lives in a small, old, cramped house with no room for a table and chairs, just enough room for a bed. Furniture, clothes, blankets and pillows must be piled on that single bed. Previously, artists from the group "Ngu Long Du Ky" including Phi Phung, Phuong Dung, Thuy Muoi... visited and gave her gifts.

Recalling the golden age, musician Do An confided: "My wife sang in many troupes at that time. She was in the same troupe as Thanh Dien, Thanh Kim Hue, Hung Cuong... When she joined the troupe, my wife was in the Saigon 3 troupe and then sang for the Tien Giang troupe, then she met me and we fell in love and got married. We still accompany each other now."

Musician Do An said that if he sells all 10 lottery tickets in one day, he will have more than 150,000 VND in profit. In addition to daily expenses, he sets aside 20,000 VND for his wife.

"Life is hard and full of illness, but musician Kim Le Thuy cannot hide her pride in having a well-behaved grandchild who studies well and is filial to her grandparents" - musician Do An said.
