People in craft villages of An Duong district are ready for the Tet flower and ornamental plant crop.
(Haiphong.gov.vn) - With only about 1 month left until the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, at this time, people in the flower and ornamental plant craft villages of An Duong district are busy taking care of flowers and ornamental plants to ensure quality, ready to serve the Tet market.

In Dang Cuong commune, many customers came to the garden to choose peach and kumquat trees to play Tet.
Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Head of the District's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: The area of flower and ornamental plants planted this year in the district reached 620 hectares, an increase of more than 3% over the same period, concentrated in the communes: Dang Cuong, Dong Thai, Hong Thai, Le Loi... Currently, flowers and ornamental plants are growing and developing well. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong in Dong Du village (Dang Cuong commune), this year, due to the prolonged heat and dryness, there has only been one severe cold spell since the beginning of winter, so having beautiful peach trees requires more care. This year, his family planted more than 100 bonsai peach trees. At this time, many customers have come to the garden to choose and "deposit" to buy Tet peach trees. Mr. Truong Van Phong in Tri Yeu village, Dang Cuong commune said: This year, his family's kumquat garden has large, even fruits and green leaves. At this time, more than half of the kumquat garden has been purchased by customers.

In the flower and ornamental plant fields of Dong Thai commune, people are also busy taking care of, pruning and shaping the trees. This year, the area of peach and kumquat trees in the whole commune is about 51 hectares, an increase of 0.9 hectares compared to 2022, the area of flowers of all kinds is about 30 hectares. At this time, the weather is favorable for the growth of flowers and ornamental plants. According to households, growing cut flowers, especially gladiolus, peach and kumquat trees, depends a lot on the weather. Therefore, growers must proactively monitor the weather, adjust the planting schedule and take appropriate care measures. Experience shows that there is a high possibility that a cold spell will appear in early December, so peach growers need to calculate the appropriate care time so that the peach trees can bloom, bud and flower at the right time.

In Tan Tien commune, this year Mr. Do Van Sanh planted more than 12.5 hectares of flowers of all kinds to serve the Tet market.
In Kinh Giao village, Tan Tien commune, this year, Mr. Do Van Sanh's family planted 12.5 hectares of cut flowers. Mr. Sanh said that in order to meet market demand, in addition to traditional flowers such as gladiolus, lilies, lilies, gerberas, primroses, and trumpet lilies, his family also planted many other types of flowers such as snapdragons, sunflowers, delphiniums, lotus, etc. Of which, there are 1.5 hectares of gladiolus. According to Mr. Sanh, the weather is favorable for planting and caring for cut flowers for Tet.
To help farmers take good care of flowers and ornamental plants for the Tet market, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Duong district signed a contract with the Northeast Regional Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, providing daily weather information to localities to inform flower and ornamental plant growers in the area, proactively implementing timely response measures. Along with that, the People's Committee of An Duong district is completing a website to introduce agricultural products in the district, including flower and ornamental plant products; coordinating with relevant departments, branches and units to guide people to put products on the electronic trading floor.
