What did Nguyen Thuy Linh say when she lost the final match at home?

In the final of the Vietnam Open Badminton Tournament held yesterday (September 14) at Nguyen Du Gymnasium (HCMC), Nguyen Thuy Linh was cheered on by fans packed into the stadium. The number 1 Vietnamese player and her Chinese opponent Cai Yanyan contributed many beautiful shots, attractive and thrilling tug-of-wars. Cai Yanyan has a lower world ranking (107 while Thuy Linh is ranked 18), but is highly regarded as having been ranked 14th in the world and won many impressive international achievements for the Chinese badminton team. The talent of this 25-year-old player was demonstrated when she played with confidence and efficiency against Thuy Linh, thereby winning 2-0 to become the champion.

Unable to defend the championship title right at home, Nguyen Thuy Linh still left her mark. In the second set, the number 1 Vietnamese player excellently saved 2 points to end the match but unfortunately could not turn the game around. The runner-up title brought Thuy Linh 4,680 bonus points on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings and a prize of 4,180 USD (about 100 million VND). "I want to thank the audience for their love, coming to the stadium in large numbers to cheer for me during the competition days in Ho Chi Minh City. The audience's love is the happiest thing I have, a great motivation for me to strive. I have not reached the highest podium as I and everyone expected, but I tried my best and am proud of what I have done. At the end of the second set, I could have done better, but the desire to win made me not handle the situation as expected. Matches like this are opportunities for me to improve," she shared.

Right after the end of the Vietnam Open badminton tournament, last night, Nguyen Thuy Linh flew to China to participate in the China Masters badminton tournament. This is a tournament at the BWF World Tour Super 750 level, with a total prize money of up to 1.25 million USD (about 32 billion VND) and large bonus points. Therefore, she set a goal of going deep to accumulate points. "After the China tournament, I will go to Europe to compete in international tournaments in France, Germany, Denmark, and Finland. My goal is to try to achieve good results in these tournaments to enter the world top 15 for the first time. After that, I will focus on the goal of conquering the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games in December in Thailand. If I have a high ranking, I will be selected as a seed at the 33rd SEA Games and increase my chances of competing for the gold medal," she said.
