The last screenwriter of 'Journey to the West' passed away

According to Sina on March 15, veteran screenwriter Dai Yingluo passed away in Beijing (China). He was one of three screenwriters of Journey to the West (1986).

Chinese news site revealed that Dai Yingluo breathed his last in the early morning of March 14 in Beijing (China), at the age of 82. The passing of this talented screenwriter is a great loss for the Chinese theater and arts community. On his personal page, "Sun Wukong" Liu Xiao Ling Tong posted a black and white photo of them together, sadly announcing the sad news. The actor called Dai Yingluo his teacher and good friend. Wang Chongqiu - the cinematographer of Journey to the West , also shared the above information and sadly expressed that now the three screenwriters of this classic film have met in heaven.

Dai Yinglu was born in Heilongjiang (China). After graduating from the Chinese department of Heilongjiang University, he began working at the Chinese Opera Theater and wrote scripts for many stage productions: Die Luyen Hoa, Vuong Trieu Quan, Ly Thanh Chieu... In particular, he, along with Chau Uc Thanh and Duong Khiet, took on the role of screenwriter for Journey to the West (1986). They contributed to creating the classic work thanks to their deep understanding and comprehension of Wu Cheng'en's masterpiece, working in the spirit of respecting the original and being careful in adapting and creating new details. Dai Yinglu received many prestigious awards for his contributions to Chinese art, and was honored as a national first-class screenwriter. According to Baidu , he was the director of the Chinese Screenwriters Association and the Chinese Literature and Drama Association.

Dai Yingluo was the last of the three screenwriters of Journey to the West to pass away . Yang Jie, the film's director and screenwriter, passed away in 2017. Meanwhile, screenwriter Zhou Yuqing passed away in 2019.

Journey to the West is a familiar work to a large Vietnamese audience as it has been shown repeatedly in Vietnam for over 30 years.

Journey to the West is a television series adapted from the novel of the same name by writer Wu Cheng'en. The film was directed by Yang Jie, filmed by Wang Chongqiu, and features the following actors: Liu Xiao Ling Tong, Ma Dehua, Chi Zhongrui, Yan Huaili... The project began filming in 1982, aired in 1986, and quickly became a classic of Chinese cinema while also causing a big stir in many Asian countries, including Vietnam. 40 years after the film was filmed, the original film crew is no longer complete.
