On August 3, Sohu newspaper reported that veteran actor Chu Long Quang, who played the role of Buddha Tathagata in Journey to the West, passed away on August 2 in Beijing due to serious illness, at the age of 86.

On Weibo, actor Liu Xiao Ling Tong wrote a farewell message: "A master of stage, film and television arts - Master Zhu Long Guang left us on August 2 in Beijing. Farewell to an immortal Buddha Tathagata in the hearts of the audience. Sincere condolences, endless regret."

On the afternoon of August 3, Ms. Ngo Hue Phuong - Chu Long Quang's wife - officially announced the funeral and sad news to the public.

In her obituary, she reviewed his artistic journey as a humble and dedicated artist who always used his personality and roles to positively inspire people.

Zhu Longguang was born in September 1939 in Xi'an, in a family of seven siblings. From an early age, he showed a strong passion for the stage. After graduating from high school, he passed the entrance exam to the art department of Lanzhou Academy of Arts.

With an outstanding height of 1m82 and natural acting talent, as a student he was chosen to play the main role in the play " Hang Long Phuc Ho" , a role that helped him win first prize for National Young Actor.

In 1962, after graduating, he was assigned to work at the Railway Corps Art Troupe.

In 1965, he participated in his first TV series Tunnel War , selected by director Nham Huc Dong, playing the male lead role of Cao Truyen Bao. It was also from this film that he fell in love with Ms. Ngo Hue Phuong, his co-star and later his wife.

After the Tunnel War ended, the two became more and more attached. In 1967, they officially became a family and had three daughters together.

In 1981, director Yang Jie began filming Journey to the West . Makeup artist Wang Xi Zhong nominated Zhu Long Guang to play the role of Buddha Tathagata.

Immediately after the make-up was completed, the entire crew was amazed by his appearance and demeanor, which were so similar to the character in the story. This role has become an irreplaceable milestone in his acting career.
