Vietnam's record-breaking "3 conical hats" theater is a typical tourist destination.

(Dan Tri) - Cao Van Lau Theatre (also known as the 3 conical hat theatre) was established as the building with the "largest conical hat-shaped building in Vietnam" 10 years ago. Recently, the theatre has become a typical tourist destination in the Mekong Delta.

Cao Van Lau Theater is located on Hung Vuong and Cu Chinh Lan streets in Ward 1, Bac Lieu City, Bac Lieu Province. Surrounding the theater area are state administrative agencies, the current provincial capital of Bac Lieu Province (Photo: Contributor).

The main facade of the theater faces Hung Vuong Street, where there is Hung Vuong Square, one of the largest squares in the Mekong Delta.

The theater is located in a cluster of prominent buildings in Hung Vuong Square (center of Bac Lieu City), including the statue of the zither. These are two buildings that were recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization as the "Largest stylized zither" and "Largest conical hat-shaped building" in April 2014.

Cao Van Lau Theatre has 3 main buildings (theatre, exhibition hall and conference hall) built on a total area of ​​over 2,260m2, with the architecture shaped like 3 conical hats gathered together, so it is also called the 3 conical hat theatre. Cao Van Lau Theatre is named after the late musician Cao Van Lau (1892-1976), author of the immortal Da Co Hoai Lang . This is the piece of music that is considered to mark the beginning of Cai Luong in the South. "Tu la tu phu tuong, bao kiem sac phong len dan,...", today Da Co Hoai Lang is not only the cultural heritage of Bac Lieu people but also the cultural heritage of the South and the whole country in general.

The highlight of the theater is the image of the conical hat familiar to the Vietnamese people, representing closeness, attachment and the simple beauty of the Vietnamese countryside.

Some musical instruments commonly used in traditional music, reformed opera, etc. are displayed inside the theater so that visitors can admire and learn more about this unique art form.

Around the theater, there are additional internal roads planted with trees, a lake with lotus, water lilies, etc. to create a cool green space. From the main door of the theater, you can see the airy Hung Vuong Square.

The outside of Cao Van Lau theater can be used as a "backdrop" for cultural and artistic programs and activities inside and outside Bac Lieu province.

Inside the theater block, there is a fairly modern stage and a grandstand with hundreds of seats. The theater is a venue for many art performances with many unique genres such as: Cai Luong singing, Du Ke, contemporary music and dance,... with performances by excellent artists and talented young artists. Currently, famous Cai Luong excerpts are also performed every Saturday night to serve the audience. "It can be said that Cao Van Lau Theater is the cradle of preserving unique cultural and artistic values ​​in the Southern region. These cultural activities will contribute to preserving precious traditional beauty; at the same time, encourage the younger generation to learn and appreciate the good values ​​left by their ancestors," according to the leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Lieu province.

The image of Cao Van Lau theater is included in the tourism logo of Bac Lieu province. It is the image of 3 stylized conical hats with 3 colors (red, yellow, green) designed to intertwine (also the image representing the solidarity of the 3 Kinh - Khmer - Hoa ethnic groups) covered by a stylized dan kim. The image of conical hats directs us to the cultural characteristics of the South, closely associated with the daily life of the people, especially the women of the South, including women of Bac Lieu. "This place has become an unmissable destination, attracting tourists from inside and outside the province to join the journey to discover the cultural beauty of Bac Lieu," Mr. Ly Vy Trieu Duong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Lieu province, shared with Dan Tri reporter about the "3 conical hats" theater when it was just recognized by the Mekong Delta Tourism Association as a typical tourist destination of the Mekong Delta.
