Dr. Vu Xuan Duong said that since 2010, when he started working at the Faculty of Agriculture of Hung Vuong University, he found this an interesting field, close to farmers and the research topics in the field of agriculture have high applicability, helping people. That passion has urged him to continue his path of study and research.
Identifying that scientific and technological activities need to be closely linked to practice and solve local problems, Mr. Duong has deployed and participated in implementing many topics associated with farming households, cooperatives, and businesses operating in the agricultural sector. From 2020 to present, Mr. Duong and his colleagues have persistently applied 5 scientific research topics into practice, contributing to bringing scientific and technological advances into production, meeting the practical needs of localities such as Vinh Phuc and Phu Tho provinces.
In particular, the topic "Research and development of a biotechnology application model to increase the value of fresh milk products in Vinh Phuc province" (implemented from 2020 - 2022) is Mr. Duong's passion. According to Mr. Duong, the land of Vinh Thinh commune, Vinh Tuong district, old Vinh Phuc province (now Vinh Phu commune, Phu Tho province) has a very developed dairy farming industry, with more than 14,000 cows, producing nearly 100 tons of fresh milk per day. Although the fresh milk output is very large, this area does not have a facility to process dairy products. Most of the fresh milk from the dairy herd is sold as raw materials to fresh milk purchasing companies. Although the sale of raw milk brings a stable income, the local milk brand is not known to consumers.
As a son of Vinh Phuc, Mr. Duong always cherished the desire to bring advanced technology to produce and process quality products from fresh milk right in his hometown, helping farmers have a stable place to consume. That urged him to carry out research and find a basis for application.
During the implementation of the project, Mr. Duong regularly followed the local situation, through the People's Committee of the old Vinh Thinh commune (now Vinh Phu commune) to connect investors to establish Vinh Thinh Livestock and Dairy Processing Joint Stock Company. This is the first company in Vinh Tuong district (at that time) operating in the field of processing milk and fresh cow's milk products. The company has an investment scale with a design capacity of 1,500 - 2,000 tons of products/year, with a system of infrastructure, production lines, modern equipment, production processes and production management meeting ISO 22000:2018 standards. Currently, Vinh Thinh Livestock and Dairy Processing Joint Stock Company has been operating stably, linking production and consumption of cow's milk products for more than 20 households in Vinh Phu commune, creating jobs for 12 - 15 workers, with an average income of about 7 - 12 million VND/month.
Mr. Tran Trung Thanh, Hoang Xa village, Vinh Phu commune, said that his family raises 50 dairy cows, producing about 500 liters of milk per day. Previously, his family sold raw milk to a purchasing company at a price of 12,000 - 15,000 VND/liter. However, the milk price was unstable and changed constantly. Since joining the joint model with Vinh Thinh Livestock and Dairy Processing Joint Stock Company, his family has had milk purchased at a stable price of 15,000 VND/liter. In addition, the company has instructed him on barn cleaning techniques and care techniques to keep the cows healthy and produce the best quality milk. Currently, after deducting expenses, Mr. Thanh's family earns an average of nearly 1 billion VND per year.
Director of Vinh Thinh Livestock and Dairy Processing Joint Stock Company Nguyen Tien Loc shared that thanks to the application of modern techniques in processing, all products are naturally fermented, using a separate probiotic system, creating a unique flavor for the product. In 2023, the Company's dairy products, including: unsweetened pasteurized fresh milk, sweetened pasteurized fresh milk, Vinh Tuong yogurt, Vinh Tuong purple sticky rice yogurt, drinking yogurt, were certified with 3-star OCOP by the province. In early 2024, the Company's products were honored as Typical Rural Industrial Products of the Northern region.
Dr. Vu Xuan Duong said that he and the company are continuing to research, perfect and improve to create new products, meeting the increasing diversification of market products.
Not only that, Mr. Duong also participated in many other agricultural research projects and participated in consulting tasks for farmers and cooperatives in Vinh Phuc province (old) to participate in the chain linkage model, helping to increase productivity, quality and agricultural products such as: consulting for Dai Lai Agricultural Cooperative to implement a plan to develop linked production according to the value chain linking production with consumption of safe vegetable products; consulting on developing linked production according to the value chain linking production with consumption of biosafe chicken products for Yen Binh Livestock and Agricultural Services Cooperative; consulting for Ngoc My Dragon Fruit Cooperative to implement "Linking production and consumption of red-fleshed dragon fruit products...
Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phu Tho province Hoang Xuan Giao assessed that Mr. Vu Xuan Duong is a young and enthusiastic cadre, always attached to and accompanying the agricultural sector and farmers. The models he has implemented and advised do not only stop at technical support but also help people change their production mindset, approach scientific advances in a systematic way, thereby changing production mindset and increasing the value of agricultural products.
With his contributions, Mr. Duong has been repeatedly recognized and rewarded by all levels and sectors. Notably, in August 2025, he was the only individual from Phu Tho province to be honored by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union as one of the 32 scientists of farmers in 2025.
