Many people flocked to see the large burning hole in the middle of the field in Soc Trang.

On the morning of May 12, arriving at Ta An A1 hamlet, Thuan Hung commune, My Tu district ( Soc Trang province), we recorded a large number of people, mainly from localities outside Soc Trang province such as An Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long... pouring into the rice field located about 100m from the residential area to see the boiling water hole. If lit with a lighter, it will burn close to the ground.

Mentioning this phenomenon, Mr. Ly Thol, the owner of the field, laughed and said: "In 2002, my house was on this field. That year, I called a worker to drill a well to get water for use and discovered that gas was coming up and burning. Seeing that, I used it to cook in the house.

In 2006 I moved the house inside and filled the well and continued to grow rice as usual.

Recently, someone discovered a gas fire, so many people, especially those using social networks, came to film and broadcast it, causing many people to come to watch. Some people even brought fruits and incense to worship.

The old well area may catch fire.

I confirm that the story about the burning well is real, it happened 22 years ago, not recently. My family also used it for normal cooking, there is nothing mysterious about it."

Now some people from other places came to film and post it online, causing a stir, attracting many people to come to watch, causing noise, disturbing security and order, and the people around were also annoyed by the sound of cars running and dogs barking when people came in.

Mr. Ly Thol said this phenomenon appeared 22 years ago.

According to an official from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Soc Trang province, the unit sent specialized staff to survey and initially determined that the well fire could be caused by methane gas.

"We advise people not to get close out of curiosity, put their hands down the well, or light a fire to avoid unpredictable consequences," said this officer.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Vice Chairman of My Tu District People's Committee, said: "The locality has surveyed and will set up a fence to isolate the area and warn people not to go near the well to avoid danger."
