On the morning of June 30, the City Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Can Tho City solemnly held a ceremony to announce the Resolution and Decision of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units, ending the operation of district-level administrative units, establishing Party organizations, appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of the city, communes, and wards.

Attending the ceremony were comrade Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member, Chairman of the National Assembly; local leaders and former leaders of Can Tho City, Hau Giang, and Soc Trang through the periods.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee announced important decisions such as: Resolution of the National Assembly on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units; Decision of the Politburo on the establishment of the Can Tho City Party Committee; Decision of the Politburo on the appointment of the Executive Committee, Standing Committee, Secretary, and Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man presented the decision to Comrade Dong Van Thanh, Permanent Deputy Secretary, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Council.

Accordingly, the Can Tho City Party Executive Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term was appointed, consisting of 79 comrades (27 comrades members of the Can Tho City Party Executive Committee, 20 comrades members of the Soc Trang Provincial Party Executive Committee, 32 comrades members of the Hau Giang Provincial Party Executive Committee). The Can Tho City Party Standing Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term was appointed, consisting of 20 comrades (5 comrades members of the Can Tho City Party Standing Committee, 4 comrades members of the Soc Trang Provincial Party Standing Committee, 11 comrades members of the Hau Giang Provincial Party Standing Committee).

Appoint comrade Do Thanh Binh, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee (old) to hold the position of Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee (new).

Appoint comrade Tran Van Lau, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province (old) to hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho city (new).

Speaking at the ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the ceremony to announce the Resolution and Decision of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units, ending the operation of district-level administrative units, establishing party organizations, appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of cities, communes, and wards is a great festival for all people, marking a historic event in the process of institutional reform and organization of local government apparatus, opening a new development stage of the country.

The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that the arrangement of administrative units is a major, consistent, and continuous policy that has been focused on by the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, the National Assembly, the Government, and agencies in the political system to focus on leading, directing, and organizing synchronous, urgent, and drastic implementation nationwide with the goal of officially putting into operation a two-level local government from July 1, 2025; ensuring a reduction in the intermediate class, close to the people, the government acts quickly, flexibly, centrally, and responsibly, promoting decentralization and delegation of powers, creating a new development space, and a streamlined, strong, efficient, effective, and efficient political system apparatus.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that Can Tho City, Hau Giang Province, and Soc Trang Province will merge to become Can Tho City to have the opportunity to implement the valuable lesson that our ancestors have learned for generations: one tree alone cannot make a forest, three trees together can make a high mountain. This is a favorable premise to carry out economic, cultural, and social development linkages, ensure national defense and security; expand development space, clearly position the role of a regional economic center, with enough scope to lead the entire Mekong Delta region in accordance with the spirit of Resolution 59 of the Politburo; Resolution 45 of the National Assembly on piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Can Tho City and to be applied to the new Can Tho City.

The National Assembly Chairman requested the entire political system of Can Tho City to quickly stabilize the organization, properly arrange cadres, civil servants and public employees at the new administrative units, ensure smooth transition, without interruption in providing public services, wholeheartedly serving the people. Quickly and effectively arrange headquarters, working equipment, serving the work of agencies, organizations and units; handle surplus public assets after the merger, avoid loss and waste.

At the same time, focus on socio-economic development, ensure national defense and security, strive to become a national growth pole, play the role of a driving force for regional development; a center of trade, services, logistics and maritime economy of the region; a center of startups, science and technology and innovation, artificial intelligence. Develop digital technology industry, processing industry and high-tech agriculture, synchronous and modern infrastructure system.
