(Fatherland) - On the afternoon of November 25, the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province issued a document announcing the organization of teaching and learning while continuing to respond to the developments of floods.
The Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province said that according to the forecast from the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, from the evening of November 25 to 28, in Thua Thien Hue province, there will be heavy rain, very heavy rain, and some places will have extremely heavy rain. The total rainfall for the whole period is generally 150-350mm, in some places over 500mm; in the mountainous areas of A Luoi, Nam Dong, Phu Loc, Phong Dien districts and Huong Tra town 200-450mm, in some places over 600mm; in the mountainous areas of Bach Ma and Bach Ma peak (Phu Loc) 500-1000mm, in some places over 1000mm.
In the face of the complicated situation of rain and floods in the coming days, the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province has requested that in flooded areas that are not accessible, students be notified to continue to stay home from school until conditions are met to ensure safety and organize for students to return to school. At the same time, make-up teaching plans are implemented to ensure the completion of the general progress of the school year plan.
Heavy rain and rising river water caused many roads and low-lying areas in Hue City to be flooded on November 25.
Less affected and dry areas such as Nam Dong district, A Luoi district and some areas of Huong Thuy town, Huong Tra town, Phong Dien district,... will allow students to return to school as usual from November 26, 2024.
The Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province also requested its subordinate units to follow the instructions in the Department's guiding documents on safety education to minimize accidents and injuries after floods. In particular, it advised students after each class to absolutely not go to ponds, lakes, rivers or streams without the support of adults.
Regarding this issue, the Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Thua Thien Hue province informed that through experience over the years, before, during and after floods, there were many cases of drowning due to going through tunnels, overflows, swimming in ponds and lakes, going on capsized boats without knowing how to swim, not having life jackets, etc. Currently, the unit has requested localities in the province to strengthen the effectiveness of the motto "on-site self-management" in preventing drowning accidents during floods.
Accordingly, local authorities and Party committees must resolutely take the grassroots as the focal point for direction, people must self-manage, enhance the role of village and residential group leaders... must manage and protect people, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, people with serious illnesses, the poor...; parents must manage and protect their children; schools and teachers must protect students. Local authorities and departments need to strengthen propaganda on the information system to prevent accidents and injuries immediately after the flood.
