On October 1, the People's Committee of Chu Prong Commune, Gia Lai Province, issued a report verifying the content of the article: "Parents shocked by the fees at a mountainous school" reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper .
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Chu Prong Commune, after the press reported the information, Chu Prong Commune directed the Department of Culture and Society to verify the information and report on the 2025-2026 school year collection at Phan Chu Trinh Primary School.
Phan Chu Trinh Primary School has announced to return some of the collected fees to parents.
Thereby, it was determined that Phan Chu Trinh Primary School had collected fees according to regulations and voluntary fees such as: personal insurance (voluntary), boarding service 25,000 VND/student/day; entrance fee for grade 1 is 500,000 VND/9 months, from grade 2-5 is 100,000 VND/9 months; English tuition (optional for grade 1 and grade 2 students) 40,000 VND/month; direct service fee for students; toilet cleaning service, drinking water...
As for the funds such as the Parents' Association fund and the class fund, the Parents' Association raises the funds and the school does not directly collect them. The student card fee of 30,000 VND/student is collected according to the student's needs.
Up to now, the school has notified parents of the tuition fees for English subjects for grades 1 and 2 and the drinking water fees (45,000 VND/year) that have stopped being collected and have notified parents of the refund.
Previously, parents were shocked to see the list of beginning-of-year revenues amounting to nearly 5 million VND.
Reporting to Chu Prong commune, Ms. Phan Thi Nga, Principal of Phan Chu Trinh Primary School, said that she noticed that parents added up all the contributions of boarding students in a school year, plus the fees the school had stopped collecting (afternoon fee: 900,000 VND/student/year), plus the fees the school did not collect and added the new voluntary contributions from parents, totaling 4,865,000.
The school collects the fees monthly, not annually. The school has implemented the fees according to the instructions from the superiors. The school has proactively stopped and returned the fees that were not instructed (English tuition, drinking water).
Parents stunned
As previously reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , at the beginning of the school year, parents of Phan Chu Trinh Primary School said they were "shocked" when they were informed that the beginning of the year fees amounted to nearly 5 million VND.
