Many vehicles exporting durian to China are cleared normally, but after the new regulation, they must have an additional O-grade yellow inspection certificate.

Durian exports have "smoothed out"

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on February 4, Mr. Hoang Khanh Duy - Deputy Head of the Management Board of Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone (Lang Son province) - said that the export of agricultural products and fresh fruits to China, including durian, has been going smoothly.

Specifically, in the 3 days from February 1 to 3, there were 14 trucks exporting durian through Huu Nghi international border gate, and 12 trucks at Tan Thanh border gate, with hundreds of tons of goods.

"These are pre-registered vehicles for customs clearance," said Mr. Duy.

Currently, durian testing laboratories recognized by China are located in Hanoi , Hai Phong, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and Ca Mau.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online on January 9, China announced that it would apply regulations requiring Thai and Vietnamese durian shipments to have additional O-yellow quality inspection certificates (from January 10). O-yellow quality testing laboratories must be approved by China.

The request was made after Chinese authorities discovered a shipment of Thai durian containing yellow O residue at the end of 2024.

It was not until January 17 that China approved the list of 7 laboratories in Vietnam (at the same time as Thailand), so the testing of yellow O substance could not be carried out before January 17.

Many Vietnamese durian shipments have had to be temporarily suspended from export, causing difficulties and losses for businesses. There are cases where durian containers have had to be turned back to be frozen or sold domestically. It is estimated that some durian containers are worth up to 3 billion VND.

Continuously communicate with China to clear goods

Deputy Head of the Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone Management Board Hoang Khanh Duy emphasized that this agency continuously exchanges, holds talks, and requests Chinese authorities to facilitate customs clearance of goods.

Vietnamese authorities proactively have plans and strategies to divide "green lanes" and regulate freight vehicles early to avoid prolonged congestion...

Regarding the recent difficulties in customs clearance of durian by some businesses, he affirmed that all exported goods must meet the requirements of the importing country, for example, ensuring testing standards for cadmium, O-gold, etc.

"Lang Son province always creates the best conditions for businesses that meet the procedures and standards, but businesses must ensure regulations and standards when exporting goods and fruits to other countries," said Mr. Duy.

Previously, the Management Board of Dong Dang - Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone announced that Huu Nghi international border gate and the dedicated road in the area of landmark 1088/2-1089 (Tan Thanh border gate), the Chinese side will be closed for Tet from January 28 to 31.

Customs clearance for pre-registered goods is carried out from February 1 to 4. Tomorrow (February 5), customs clearance activities at all the above mentioned border gates will return to normal.

On February 3, at the border gates in Lang Son province, the total number of vehicles transporting import and export goods was nearly 300. By 8:00 p.m. the same day, there were about 350 vehicles left, of which over 340 were fruit vehicles, the rest were other goods, an increase of 18 vehicles compared to February 2.
