That seemingly small story touches on a big concern of society. Are school meals being served decently and transparently in other schools? Previously, in Da Lat, parents and administrators of Trung Vuong Primary School filed a complaint against the principal for contracting with a supplier to bring dirty food into the kitchen. In Quang Tri province, 40 students of Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School were hospitalized after eating banh tay for breakfast... For many years, parents have continuously expressed their anger on social networks as well as come to school to confront many incidents related to student meals. That concern, sometimes pushed too far, still comes from a legitimate mentality: the desire for their children to eat enough, eat cleanly and be respected.
For those who are truly engaged in education , every time they hear about poor quality student meals somewhere, it is heartbreaking. Not only because of the damage to their professional reputation, but also because of the feeling of helplessness when parents’ trust in the school is becoming increasingly fragile. A boarding meal costs only a few tens of thousands of dong, but it contains not only material value but also a measure of conscience, personality and professional ethics.
When students eat a “cut-off” meal, they not only lose physical energy but also suffer mental damage. They are taught about honesty, fairness, and love every day, but they are victims of those who provide such poor quality rice. These incidents may not be common, but each time they happen, it is like a needle pricking the hearts of millions of teachers who are trying to maintain the image of “Teacher”. Just a few individuals lacking transparency have damaged the reputation of the whole industry.
Most of these negative incidents are often quickly forgotten, because it is difficult to clarify the pricing of a meal. The incident is often evaluated emotionally, then passed in the anger and oblivion of those involved. It is time for the education sector and local authorities to set out clear regulations, with systematic supervision, identifying the quality of school meals as part of character education and public ethics. Many experts propose installing surveillance cameras in all boarding kitchens, so that parents can monitor remotely. When public supervision becomes the norm, community skepticism will gradually be replaced by respect.
Keeping the student's plate of rice intact is also a way to maintain the trust and the pure image of the educational environment. Moreover, it is the way that each lesson on ethics to perfect the student's personality is not just empty words but also expressed by the most practical, simple and sincere actions.
