On the morning of October 7, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene, Quang Tri Department of Health announced that it had received test results from the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang related to the case of 40 students of Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School (Kim Ngan Commune) suspected of food poisoning.
Test results detected toxin-producing Bacillus cereus strains in 1 food sample and 1 clinical sample; no pathogenic bacteria were found in the remaining 3 food samples and 11 clinical samples.
Bacillus cereus bacteria are common in soil, dust, water and food. This bacteria can cause vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, especially when cooked food is left out for a long time, and also cause poisoning if cooked food is left out for a long time.
The Food Safety and Hygiene Department said it will notify the results to the People's Committee of Kim Ngan Commune and the Le Thuy Regional Medical Center to serve the process of concluding the food poisoning case as well as to have a basis for handling according to authority.
As reported by VNA, at around 8:00 a.m. on September 26, 40 students were suspected of food poisoning after breakfast at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School.
Immediately after the incident, the school coordinated with the authorities and parents to mobilize vehicles to take the students to Le Thuy General Hospital for examination and treatment.
The incident caused a lot of conflicting information and outrage on social networks. On October 2, the People's Committee of Kim Ngan Commune, Quang Tri Province decided to temporarily suspend the Vice Principal in charge of boarding at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for 15 days.../.
