'Pot of love porridge' brings warmth and sharing to poor patients

On the morning of September 18 and 19, 2025, at the ground floor of Dong Nai General Hospital, Dong Nai Province Charity Association organized a 'Pot of Love Porridge' kitchen for poor patients and their families.

This is a location specifically arranged by the hospital for the association to cook and distribute free porridge.

The association's porridge kitchen has been operating for quite a long time, thanks to the contributions and support of benefactors, volunteers, agencies and organizations responding to the call of the Dong Nai Province Charity Association. "The pot of love porridge" not only serves poor patients and their caregivers at the hospital, but also spreads and becomes a destination for the lonely, the destitute, and those in difficult circumstances...

Before 5am, people were lining up to receive porridge on the ground floor of Dong Nai General Hospital.

Every morning from Monday to Saturday, at 5am, the pot of porridge is ready to serve the people. By 6am, the porridge is gone. To prepare, the volunteers of the association have to prepare the ingredients the night before in order to cook and distribute hot porridge early in the morning.

Good bags of rice to cook porridge for people

On average, a pot of porridge uses 10 kg of rice, 3 kg of bones, meat and spices, all of which are guaranteed to be safe for food. Usually, 2 pots are cooked each day to serve people.

Dong Nai Province Charity Association maintains porridge distribution from 5am to 6am every morning (except weekends)

Despite the difficulties in maintaining the charity porridge pot regularly, the Dong Nai Charity Association still perseveres with the program with a heart of compassion and sharing. Besides calling for support, the members of the association also directly contribute to keep the porridge pot always on fire.

Warm bowls of porridge are concrete and practical evidence of the community's compassion and sharing for poor patients and the less fortunate.

The fifth Living Well Writing Contest was held to encourage people to write about noble actions that have helped individuals or communities. This year, the contest focused on praising individuals or groups that have performed acts of kindness, bringing hope to those in difficult circumstances.

The highlight is the new environmental award category, honoring works that inspire and encourage action for a green, clean living environment. Through this, the Organizing Committee hopes to raise public awareness in protecting the planet for future generations.

The contest has diverse categories and prize structure, including:

Article categories: Journalism, reportage, notes or short stories, no more than 1,600 words for articles and 2,500 words for short stories.

Articles, reports, notes:

- 1 first prize: 30,000,000 VND

- 2 second prizes: 15,000,000 VND

- 3 third prizes: 10,000,000 VND

- 5 consolation prizes: 3,000,000 VND

Short story:

- 1 first prize: 30,000,000 VND

- 1 second prize: 20,000,000 VND

- 2 third prizes: 10,000,000 VND

- 4 consolation prizes: 5,000,000 VND

Photo category: Submit a photo series of at least 5 photos related to volunteer activities or environmental protection, along with the name of the photo series and a short description.

- 1 second prize: 5,000,000 VND

- 1 third prize: 3,000,000 VND

- 5 consolation prizes: 2,000,000 VND
