Ha Tinh farmers install 'magic eyes' to protect yellow apricot blossoms for Tet

These days, people in the "capital" of yellow apricot growing, Ky Nam commune, Ky Anh town (Ha Tinh), are busy taking care of and providing nutrients to the trees to help them bloom most beautifully on the occasion of Lunar New Year.

According to local people, Ky Nam yellow apricot has large, round, thick, dark green leaves; 5-petal flowers grow in clusters, dark yellow, long-lasting, hard stems and branches, dark brown; different from apricot species in other regions - small, thin, yellow-green leaves, light brown branches, mainly single flowers. “Some customers have come to the garden to buy mai trees or make deposits in advance. The mai trees here have been planted for many years, some are decades old, so the price ranges from 5-7 million VND/tree,” said Mr. Bui Hoa Thach (53 years old, resident of Tan Tien village, Ky Nam commune).

The weather in the last months of this year has been quite favorable, so the apricot trees of gardeners have grown well, with large buds, expected to bloom in time for the Lunar New Year. To help the trees have enough nutrients and produce beautiful flowers, apricot growers have stripped the leaves and supplemented the necessary nutrients for the trees.

Ky Nam Commune, Ky Anh Town (Ha Tinh) has more than 150 households growing apricot flowers, with a total area of nearly 7.5 hectares, with about 37,000 trees. The locality located at the foot of Hoanh Son Mountain is considered the capital of yellow apricot flowers in Ha Tinh.

Some households have installed security camera systems to monitor their trees because they have been vandalized and stolen.

Apricot growers say that in order for the tree to have enough nutrients to make buds, ensuring that the flowers are numerous, even, plump, and beautiful, it is necessary to choose the right time to strip off all the leaves. Stripping the apricot leaves by hand must be done very carefully, especially do not strip the leaves straight from top to bottom, doing so will damage the flower buds.

Currently, the apricot trees in people's gardens are growing well, and it is predicted that the rate of flowering in time for Tet will be much higher than last year. Many ancient apricot trees, dozens of years old, have been asked to buy by many players for hundreds of millions of dong.

Local leaders said that the native yellow apricot tree has become the main tree helping many households in Ky Nam commune to get rich. On the occasion of Lunar New Year this year, thousands of apricot trees will be supplied to the market in and outside the province.
