City farmers compete in production and good business

The movement of farmers competing in good production and business (SXKDG), uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty is one of the key tasks of the association and the farmers' movement. Through the movement, members and farmers in Can Tho city actively transform the structure of crops and livestock; build economic development models in a sustainable and effective direction. In 2023 and 2024, on average, each year the city has over 297,600 farmer households registering to compete in SXKDG; through evaluation, each year there are more than 189,000 households achieving the title of SXKDG at all levels.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Lam was voted by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union as one of the "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers" in 2025.

Farmers boldly change crop and livestock structure

Implementing the movement of farmers competing in good production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably, with the support of farmers' associations at all levels in the city, many members have boldly transformed the structure of crops and livestock to bring high economic efficiency. For example, Mr. Huynh Thanh Lam in Nhon Ai commune has built and developed a specialized durian growing model, earning billions of VND/year. Mr. Huynh Thanh Lam was honored to be voted by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Association as one of the "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmers" in 2025.

Previously, Mr. Lam's garden grew oranges, star apples, lemons, almonds, etc., but the economic efficiency was not high. In 2015, Mr. Lam renovated more than 1 hectare of garden land, planting durian and bitter melon - a fruit variety considered to be of high value at that time. Gradually, he switched to growing high-quality durian varieties.

With the enthusiastic support of agricultural extension officers and farmers' associations, Mr. Lam has successfully applied science and technology to production, earning high profits. From the initial 1 hectare, he saved capital to buy and rent more land, increasing the total durian growing area to nearly 6 hectares (of which 4.2 hectares are family land). In 2021, he sold 48 tons of durian. In 2025, the output increased to 80 tons of fruit, earning more than 5 billion VND/year.

In addition, Mr. Lam is also proactive in linking and gathering farmers to cooperate in production to increase the value of agricultural products. In 2019, he and like-minded farmers established a cooperative group and by May 2024, officially upgraded the cooperative group to Tan Thanh Durian Cooperative.

Mr. Ho Ba Phieu in Long Thanh 2 area, Thot Not ward has an income of more than 2 billion VND/year thanks to the rice seed production model. Mr. Phieu is one of the typical farmers voted to receive the title of "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer" in 2024.

According to Mr. Phieu, the movement of farmers competing in production and business has aroused the will of self-reliance, self-improvement, and the desire to become rich legitimately for many members and farmers. Through the movement, he changed his production mindset from traditional rice cultivation to a model of growing high-quality rice seeds, bringing about very clear economic efficiency. Currently, in addition to producing 12 hectares of rice seeds, Mr. Phieu has cooperated with many farmers to build a strong rice seed production force, with an area of ​​about 100 hectares and signed a contract to consume the products.

In addition to investing in developing the production model, since 2007, Mr. Phieu has built a facility for processing, packaging and providing rice seed services with an area of ​​3,000m2, including: 4 drying kilns, 2 rice filtering machines. On average, each year this facility provides more than 1,000 tons of rice seeds to farmers in the city and neighboring provinces...

In 2024, Mr. Ho Ba Phieu was voted by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union to receive the title of "Outstanding Vietnamese Farmer" with his rice seed production model.

Spread the movement of farmers competing in good production and business

According to the Can Tho City Farmers' Association, the movement of farmers competing in good production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty has developed strongly, attracting a large number of members and farmers to participate. Up to now, the city has 3 "Typical Billionaire Farmers" clubs and 78 "Farmers in Good Production and Business" clubs. The clubs have been maintained and developed and have become places to gather, share experiences, and replicate production models with high economic efficiency. In 2023 and 2024, on average, each year the city has over 297,600 farmer households registering to compete in good production and business. Through evaluation, each year more than 189,000 households have achieved the title of Good Production and Business at all levels.

In the coming time, farmers' associations at all levels in the city will continue to mobilize members and farmers to actively compete in good production and business; link and cooperate in production according to the value chain to increase added value and food safety; mobilize members and farmers to actively participate in establishing cooperatives and agricultural production cooperative groups.

At the same time, the association at all levels continues to improve the quality of services, consulting, guidance, support in capital, technology, materials, and markets; attract social resources to participate in consulting and supporting production, business, and service linkage activities; apply digital transformation in collective economic development...
