Tien Yen farmers excitedly go to the fields to harvest potatoes at the beginning of the new year

Taking advantage of the sunny weather, in the first days of the new year, farmers in some communes in Tien Yen district went to the fields to harvest Atlantic potatoes. This is the third year this potato variety has been planted in Tien Yen district and the Orion Vina Food Company Limited has purchased the products after harvest. This year, potatoes not only have a good harvest but also have good prices, bringing joy to many farmers.

Farmers in Yen Than commune are excited to harvest potatoes.

In the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop, Hai Lang and Yen Than communes (Tien Yen district) will for the first time test planting Atlantic potatoes of Orion Vina Food Company Limited. Accordingly, Hai Lang commune has conducted a trial planting of nearly 2 hectares and Yen Than commune has a trial planting of about 1 hectare. Thanks to the application of technical measures in care, potatoes grown in Hai Lang and Yen Than communes both have high yields, estimated at about 10-12 tons/ha, excluding costs, the profit will be about 20 million/ha.

Ms. Tran Thi Lua, Truong Tung village, Hai Lang commune excitedly said: “In the 2024 - 2025 Winter-Spring crop, my family will be experimenting with planting more than 1 hectare of Atlantic potatoes for the first time. Thanks to the attention of local authorities and Orion Vina Food Company Limited, which supported technical guidance on how to plant and care for potatoes, after 3 months of planting, the potatoes were harvested, with a yield of 10 tons/ha. According to the price the Company committed to the people in this crop of 8,200 VND/kg, after harvesting, after deducting investment costs, my family made a profit of about 20 million VND. In the coming Winter-Spring crop, my family will continue to invest and expand the potato growing area, hoping to have a higher income from this model.”

Bringing machines into potato harvesting reduces human labor.

It is known that in the Winter-Spring crop of 2024-2025, the entire Tien Yen district will plant about 30 hectares, mostly concentrated in the communes of Dong Hai, Dong Ngu, Hai Lang and Yen Than. The total potato output of the entire district is estimated to reach about 450 tons, with a revenue of over 3.5 billion VND.

Ms. Do Thi Duyen, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Yen district, said: “After 2 successful seasons of implementing the Atlantic potato growing model in Dong Hai and Dong Ngu communes, this year, Tien Yen district has expanded the experimental planting to a number of other localities, initially showing positive signs of suitability to soil conditions, as well as the economic efficiency that potatoes bring is higher than other crops. In particular, people feel secure when Orion Vina Food Company Limited guides them on techniques as well as commits to consuming post-harvest products. In the coming time, we will continue to propagate and mobilize people in a number of communes in the district to continue expanding the development of Atlantic potato growing, aiming to build sustainable agricultural products, bringing stable income to farmers”.
