High-tech agriculture reaches 938 million VND/ha

In early 2022, the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province issued a project to promote the development of high-tech agriculture and policies to support investment attraction in the province for the period 2021 - 2030.

Ninh Thuan's high-tech agricultural development was carried out in a difficult context, with crops constantly threatened by extreme weather, and technical infrastructure serving production not meeting the requirements for high-tech agricultural development. In addition, investment resources are limited; mechanisms and policies to attract investment resources in high-tech agriculture from private economic sectors have not been implemented. However, after only 2 years, Ninh Thuan's agricultural "picture" has become bright.

After 2 years of applying high technology, Ninh Thuan's agricultural production has developed quite comprehensively in terms of scale, productivity and quality. The structure of the agricultural sector has shifted in the right direction. Production value and proportion of agriculture applying science and high technology have increased significantly. Some of Ninh Thuan's special products have gradually affirmed their competitive advantages, brands and markets; initially forming a number of large fields, specialized areas serving the processing industry and high-tech agricultural production areas.

Currently, the value of high-tech agriculture in Ninh Thuan is estimated at about 938 million VND/ha, with high-tech melons and grapes alone reaching more than 1.2 billion VND/ha/year. Up to now, the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province has recognized 3 production areas that meet the criteria of high-tech agricultural areas; the area of ​​high-tech agricultural production is currently 565ha, of which 4 enterprises are recognized as high-tech enterprises.

“In recent years, Ninh Thuan has attracted 6 large-scale enterprises from outside the province to become the core of high-tech agricultural production and has 38 high-tech agricultural projects operating effectively. Up to now, Ninh Thuan has had 2 export products: parent black tiger shrimp and aloe vera jelly,” said Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan.

According to Mr. Cuong, Ninh Thuan has paid much attention to the conversion of crop structure and product consumption linkage in recent years. Many linkage models between farmers, cooperatives, businesses, and scientists in commodity production have initially been formed and shown effectiveness.

Breakthrough effort

According to Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, after 2 years of implementation, the value of high-tech agricultural production in Ninh Thuan increased by an average of 32.31% per year, contributing 13.16% to the production value of the province's agricultural sector in 2023.

Among the achievements in high-tech agriculture in Ninh Thuan, the most prominent is the construction of Ninh Thuan to become the center of high-quality shrimp seed production in the country. Up to now, in Ninh Thuan, there are 27 shrimp seed production enterprises applying high technology; 100% of shrimp seed production facilities are certified to meet the conditions for production and breeding of aquatic breeds; 100% of facilities are monitored for disease safety, of which 12 facilities are certified for disease safety.

“Most members of the Ninh Thuan Aquaculture Breeding Association use the “Ninh Thuan Shrimp Breeding” certification mark on their labels to trace the origin, promote the brand and affirm the reputation of Ninh Thuan shrimp breeds in the market. In 2023, the shrimp breed output in Ninh Thuan will reach 41 billion post larvae, proactively providing part of the parent shrimp source in seed production according to market requirements,” said Mr. Dang Kim Cuong.

According to Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ninh Thuan, high-tech agriculture in Ninh Thuan focuses on developing science and technology in crop innovation. Ninh Thuan's functional sector starts by advising on the development and implementation of issued policies, and at the same time attaching policies to promote the application of high technology in agricultural production.

At the same time, Ninh Thuan promotes the transfer of applications of models, production processes, new plant varieties, etc. through programs, topics, and projects. Another issue that Ninh Thuan is also concerned about is promoting productivity and quality improvement in production through traceability programs, advanced management systems from production to consumption; through the application of advanced quality management standards according to national GAP standards, towards GlobalGAP standards, etc.

“In the coming time, Ninh Thuan will not only focus on training human resources in the field of research, transferring scientific and technical advances, and new technologies in agricultural production; but also organize large-scale training so that farmers, cooperatives, and businesses can master production techniques and management and organization processes in the current period of digital commerce development,” Mr. Vo Quang Lam shared.

According to Mr. Trinh Minh Hoang, Vice Chairman of Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee, the province strives to have 3-5 areas recognized as high-tech agricultural areas by 2025. The area of ​​high-tech agricultural production in the whole province will reach over 1,000 hectares. Form 2-3 enterprises recognized as high-tech agricultural enterprises. Attract at least 2 enterprises outside the province to participate in high-tech agricultural production or large-scale enterprises operating in the agricultural sector as the core and have at least 30 high-tech agricultural projects operating effectively.

“We will select and prioritize development associated with expanding the consumption market for some typical and specific agricultural products of the province towards export, striving to have at least 1 product exported, especially products from grapes,” Mr. Trinh Minh Hoang shared.
