Facebook boss criticizes Apple for lack of innovation

CEO of Meta - Facebook's parent company, Mark Zuckerberg, has just criticized tech giant Apple for its lack of innovation and arbitrarily applying "random rules".

"The iPhone is great, because now almost everyone in the world has one. But from that foundation, Apple has set so many rules that I think are arbitrary, and I feel like they haven't really invented anything for a long time. It's like Steve Jobs invented the iPhone and now they're just sitting there 20 years later," Zuckerberg said in an interview.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg publicly criticized tech rival Apple for its lack of innovation.

The Meta boss believes iPhone sales are struggling because consumers are taking longer to upgrade their phones and new models don't offer many improvements over previous versions.

“So how does Apple make more money as a company? Well, they do it basically by making you buy more peripherals and things that plug into it. You know, they build things like Air Pods, which are great, but they just completely limit anyone else’s ability to build something that can connect to the iPhone in the same way,” Zuckerberg said.

According to CEO Zuckerberg, Apple defends the objections from other companies by saying that they do not want to violate the privacy and security of consumers. However, the Facebook boss knows that the problem will be solved if Apple fixes the protocol, such as building in better security and using encryption.

"It's not secure because you don't build any security into it. And now you're using it to justify why only your product can connect in an easy way," Zuckerberg explained, adding that if Apple stopped applying "random rules," Meta's profits would double.
