A nationwide survey conducted from January 22 to 24 among 1,250 people of voting age showed former US President Donald Trump leading incumbent President Joe Biden by 40% to 34%. The remaining people had no plans to vote for anyone or had other reasons, Reuters reported today, January 25.

The figures mark a breakthrough for Mr. Trump, after a survey also conducted by Reuters/Ipsos earlier this month showed the two men tied.

In the context of Mr. Trump's second consecutive victory in Iowa and New Hampshire, about 67% of respondents expressed that "they are tired of seeing two familiar faces in the US presidential election this year, and want someone else".

The two candidates themselves appear to be ready for a rematch after Iowa and New Hampshire returned results in the Republican primaries.

Winning again, Mr. Trump said his opponent had no chance.

More than 50% of people are dissatisfied with the US two-party system, and only 1 in 4 people support the current government structure of this country.

The new poll also shows Mr. Trump leading former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley nationally, 64% to 19%. The two will face off on February 24 in South Carolina, where Ms. Haley served as governor from 2011 to 2017.
