It will be the first time a former US president has been tried in a criminal case. In this case, Mr. Trump is accused of 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide payments to a porn star before the 2016 presidential election.

The action was aimed at silencing the woman who spoke out about their previous relationship. Mr. Trump has pleaded not guilty and said he does not know the woman, actress Stormy Daniels. This is one of four criminal cases against Mr. Trump.
According to Reuters, after about half an hour of hearing opinions from all parties, appeals court judge Lizbeth Gonzalez ruled against postponing the trial.
Mr. Trump's lawyer, Emil Bove, said that his client wanted to postpone the trial to wait for a decision on a request to move the trial out of Manhattan, which is believed to have a majority Democratic population and may be biased against Mr. Trump.

Mr. Bove said that the former president’s legal team had surveyed local residents, with the results showing that 61% of people thought Mr. Trump was guilty and 70% had a negative opinion of him. Lawyers said that could affect jury selection for the trial. “Jury selection cannot be conducted fairly next week in this county,” Mr. Bove stressed.
Mr. Trump earned more than 50 million USD for his campaign fund in one night, comparing himself to Nelson Mandela.
Meanwhile, attorney Steven Wu, representing the prosecution, said that Mr. Trump's objection to the trial on the above grounds was too late, when the charges were brought in April 2023. Mr. Wu also said that biased jurors could be eliminated during the selection process.
Mr. Trump's lawyer, Bove, did not disclose where the defendant wanted to hold the trial.
