France blocks website spreading fake news about army recruiting people to fight in Ukraine

The French Ministry of Defense said today, March 28, that French authorities had discovered a fake website recruiting volunteers to join the war in Ukraine.

The page has now been taken down by French authorities, a government source told AFP, without providing any further information.

Before being suspended, the website said that 200,000 French people were invited to "serve the army in Ukraine", with priority given to immigrants.

After checking, the French Ministry of Defense also discovered that the link to this website was posted on the social network X (formerly Twitter). "This is a fake government page," the Ministry emphasized.

While not naming any suspects behind the incident, an unnamed government official accused the website of bearing "the hallmarks of an effort by Russia or pro-Russian groups".

According to this person, it could be part of a disinformation campaign to slander France about preparing to send troops to support its ally Ukraine.

The official added that the website also had several posts with false content, including images of French military convoys moving toward the Ukrainian border.

There is currently no information about Russia's reaction to the above official's statement. Previously, the Ukrinform news agency also warned about two fake videos claiming that France sent troops to Ukraine.

According to AFP, the French Defense Ministry and government cyber units are still investigating the incident.
