Launching a campaign to prevent online fraud and protect people in cyberspace

In the first 9 months of 2024, more than 22,200 reports of online fraud were received from internet users to the Vietnam Information Security Warning Portal.

The Ministry of Information and Communications has just officially launched the campaign "Skills to identify and prevent online fraud to protect people in cyberspace", under the chairmanship of the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications). The campaign will be deployed on a large scale from October 10 to November 20, 2024.

According to the Department of Information Security, in the current period of promoting and accelerating digital transformation, bad actors have taken advantage of the information technology (IT) boom and the conveniences that IT brings to carry out many online scams and appropriate high-value assets.

In recent times, Vietnamese people have often faced the problem of online fraud. Fraudsters have found every way to take advantage of and exploit the weakest point, which is people. With sophisticated tricks, fraudsters apply many psychological measures to gain trust and lead according to the scenario. According to the records of the Department of Information Security, in the first 9 months of 2024, more than 22,200 reports of online fraud cases were received from internet users to the Vietnam Information Security Warning Portal.

To raise public awareness and reduce the risk of being scammed online, the Ministry of Information and Communications officially launched the campaign "Skills to identify and prevent online scams to protect people online". The campaign is coordinated with ministries and branches from central to local levels, information security enterprises, online service providers, social networking platforms and press and media agencies nationwide.

The campaign focuses on disseminating knowledge and skills to identify and prevent online fraud, raising awareness and knowledge for people through 5 main skill groups, including: recognition, detection, handling, prevention and protection.

According to the Information Security Authority, preventing fraud in cyberspace is not only the responsibility of state management agencies but also the responsibility of the whole society. Protecting oneself in cyberspace is a never-ending journey, requiring vigilance and continuous efforts. Each person needs to grasp the necessary knowledge and skills to become a safe and smart user in cyberspace.
