Vietnam-Laos promote cooperation in science and technology

On the afternoon of October 1, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) and the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications (MTC) held the fourth bilateral meeting.

Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and Professor, Academician Boviengkham Vongdara, Lao Minister of Technology and Communications chaired the meeting.

Speaking at the opening of the session, Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh emphasized that with the spirit of special friendship, determination and high responsibility, scientific and technological cooperation between the two sides will increasingly go into depth and effectiveness, contributing to the sustainable development of each country and strengthening the Vietnam-Laos relationship.

Over the past year, cooperation between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications has achieved many remarkable results.

Notable in this cooperation is the joint laboratory on data and disaster communication that continues to operate effectively, promptly recording and analyzing major seismic events, contributing to improving Laos' early warning capacity.

In the field of training, Hanoi University of Science and Technology (USTH) and Lao Institute of Information and Communications Technology (IICT) have coordinated to develop a plan to train high-quality human resources with master's and doctoral scholarship programs and 2+2 exchange programs.

Cooperation in the field of big data and cloud computing continues to be promoted, towards the construction of a National Center for Data Storage and Cloud Computing in Laos...

Based on those results, the two sides agreed to continue completing the Draft Project on the Disaster Data and Communication Center to report to the two Governments .

At the same time, expand cooperation on science, technology and innovation policies; encourage start-up businesses and attract high-tech investment; increase exchanges of experts and researchers and expand short-term and long-term training forms...

At the meeting, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications Signing of the Minutes of the Fourth Bilateral Meeting.

Also on this occasion, a cooperation agreement signing ceremony took place between the Institute of Earth Sciences (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) and the Institute for Smart Technology Application Research (Laos).
