Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong has just signed Decision No. 1861/QD-UBND approving the design task for the architectural design competition for the main overpass project under Component 2: Upgrading the North-South axis road (from Nguyen Van Linh Street to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway), implemented under the form of PPP - BOT contract.
According to the decision, the competition will select the optimal architectural solution for the main overpass with a length of about 6.62km, a scale of 4 lanes, a design speed of 80km/h. The project belongs to group A, special level, plays the role of a fast traffic axis connecting the center of Ho Chi Minh City with the urban area - Hiep Phuoc port, and at the same time directly connects with key highways and beltways such as Ben Luc - Long Thanh, Beltways 2, 3 and 4.
The competition is organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, with no limit on the number of participating units. The contestants are companies, design consulting organizations or consortiums with capacity, reputation and experience in implementing traffic works, level II architecture or higher. The contest plans must ensure modernity, feasibility, uniqueness, meet technical requirements, at the same time harmonize with the urban landscape and aim for sustainable development.
The application must include an explanation of the idea, a general drawing, architectural perspective, traffic organization and may include a model and an illustrative film. The selection board will evaluate and select the optimal solution, report to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for approval and announce the results according to regulations.
The competition is expected to find modern architectural and technical solutions, create a highlight for the urban landscape in the South of Ho Chi Minh City, and at the same time improve inter-regional traffic capacity, promote industrial development, logistics and urban services.
The North-South axis road upgrade project (Nguyen Huu Tho), the section from Nguyen Van Linh to Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, is about 8km long, with a total investment of nearly VND9,894 billion.
The project component 2 alone has a budget of more than 6,100 billion VND, including expanding the road surface to 60m, meeting 10 lanes. Notably, more than 6.6km of the route will be built on an elevated road (viaduct) with a scale of 4 lanes, a design speed of 80km/h.
The total land area of the elevated route is about 49.8 hectares. The underground roads are arranged on both sides, each side has 3 lanes, maximum speed is 60km/h. On the route there are two important intersections at Nguyen Van Linh Street and Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway.
