At the meeting, leaders of central ministries, branches and a number of coastal localities reported to Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and the National Steering Committee on IUU on outstanding results in implementing the Prime Minister's instructions on combating IUU fishing after the 16th meeting of the National Steering Committee on IUU.

In Khanh Hoa, after the 16th meeting of the National Steering Committee on IUU chaired by the Prime Minister, the Provincial People's Committee thoroughly grasped and directed relevant units to launch a peak period, resolutely declaring war on IUU violations. Currently, the whole province has 5,217 fishing vessels, 100% of which have been registered and marked in accordance with regulations. There are no more 3-no fishing vessels in the area, currently there are 7 fishing vessels that do not meet operating conditions and are being closely monitored; 1,507/1,510 fishing vessels with a length of 15m or more have installed voyage monitoring equipment (VMS); 3 vessels that have not installed VMS have been damaged and are on shore waiting to be sold; for many years now, Khanh Hoa has had no fishing vessels violating foreign waters...

In the coming time, the province will continue to direct relevant units to carry out a peak period against IUU fishing, in which absolutely no fishing vessels or fishermen will be allowed to illegally exploit seafood in foreign waters; strictly control fishing vessels entering and leaving ports, and entering and leaving ports in accordance with regulations, not allowing unqualified fishing vessels to participate in fishing activities; continue to review all records of fishing vessels that have lost VMS connection for more than 6 hours to investigate, verify, and thoroughly handle violations; continue to organize inspection teams, guide the People's Committees at the commune level in managing and supervising fishing vessels, especially fishing vessels that are not qualified to operate...

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that combating IUU fishing is a regular and continuous task for sustainable development of the fisheries sector. Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha assigned specific tasks to ministries, central branches and localities to improve the effectiveness of combating IUU fishing. Localities should urgently review fishing ports invested by the State and private sector, and if qualified, announce them for fishing vessels to enter and exit the port; review and immediately report difficulties and problems related to handling IUU violations; coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to develop programs and plans for career transition for fishermen from fishing to aquaculture...
