Welcoming the Madam were representatives of the Helsinki City Department of Education , the Vesala School Board, teachers, parents and students of the Vesala School's Vietnamese class. Madam Ngo Phuong Ly kindly visited and participated in the class's learning activities with the teachers and overseas students, and listened to the students recite poems in Vietnamese.
Madam Ngo Phuong Ly expressed her emotion and pride when witnessing the children, who are a generation of young Vietnamese born and raised in Finland, still diligently learning Vietnamese in a modern educational environment at Vesala School. The Lady emphasized that Vietnamese is not only a means of communication but also a bond that connects each person with their family, community and homeland; through learning Vietnamese, the children understand more about their grandparents and parents - who always want their children to return to their national roots.
Pleased to know that the Vietnamese language class at Vesala School has been maintained for nearly 40 years, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly thanked the Helsinki Department of Education and the Board of Directors of Vesala School for their attention and creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese language class to be maintained and developed; and thanked the dedication and perseverance of the Vietnamese teachers who are silently spreading the flame, preserving the Vietnamese language, and cultivating love for the homeland for the young generation.
On this occasion, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly presented the "Vietnamese Bookcase" with about 120 books, more than 300 textbooks, children's comics, literature books, history, geography, and Vietnamese people to support teaching and help students have more learning materials, explore Vietnamese language and culture, and contribute to continuing to maintain Vietnamese language classes in Helsinki and Finland.
Ms. Vu Thi Thu Nga, the teacher in charge of the Vietnamese class, said that there are currently more than 40 students of Vietnamese origin studying the elective Vietnamese language at Vesala School. The visit and meaningful gift from the Lady is a great source of encouragement, contributing to promoting the spirit of teaching and learning Vietnamese in the Vietnamese community in Finland, while promoting cultural exchange and educational cooperation between Vietnam and Finland in the coming time.
During the visit, Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly also visited the Finnish National Art Museum Ateneum. The museum, founded in 1887 and located in Helsinki, exhibits a large collection of Finnish art from the 18th century to the present day along with outstanding international works of art. Mrs. Ngo Phuong Ly also visited the Marimekko headquarters and production workshop.
