Diversify economic models, maximize land utilization

Aquaculture has long been a key economic sector of Quach Pham commune. In recent years, people have boldly innovated production methods, applying advanced techniques to improve economic efficiency. A typical example is the improved 2-phase extensive shrimp farming model (phase 1: raising shrimp in tanks; phase 2: raising commercial shrimp in larger ponds). Mr. Pham Tan Quoc (Xom Dua hamlet) is one of the pioneering households applying this model. "Previously, shrimp farming in the traditional way had many diseases, and the output was unstable. Now I raise shrimp according to a 2-phase process, shrimp are raised in tanks before being brought to the pond so they are healthier and grow evenly. In the past 2 years, productivity has increased significantly, the selling price is stable, and the profit is much higher," Mr. Quoc said excitedly.

Aquaculture is the key economic sector of Quach Pham commune.

This model helps reduce risks, limit diseases, increase productivity, and improve the quality of farmed shrimp, so it has been learned and replicated by many households in the commune. In the past 5 years (2020-2025), the total aquatic product output of Quach Pham commune reached 82,463 tons, of which shrimp output reached nearly 42,000 tons.

In addition to shrimp farming, many households also combine blood cockle and crab farming with intercropping to make the most of land and water surface. Ms. Huynh Thi Anh (Ba Hinh hamlet) said: "In addition to the 4ha area for cockle farming, my family also takes advantage of the embankment to grow bitter melon; around the garden, we grow crops. Thanks to that, we have a stable source of income. This way, if the market fluctuates, my family will still have a way to manage."

Enhancing local products

Quach Pham people also focus on developing traditional products, creating a brand for their hometown specialties. The Dam Doi Ba Khia Cooperative (HTX) with Ms. Tran Thi Xa as Director and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors is a typical example. Many products from Ba Khia of the Cooperative meet the provincial 4-star OCOP standard and the Cooperative is investing to upgrade to the province's 5-star OCOP product.

Ms. Xa shared: "We always try to maintain the traditional flavor, but also improve the production process, invest in machinery and equipment to ensure food hygiene and safety and meet the higher standards of demanding markets. The products are typical of the country, fully qualified and trusted by customers inside and outside the province, many places order all year round. This is the pride of the Dam Doi crab cooperative in particular and the Quach Pham people in general."

Many products of the three cooperatives   Dam Doi salt field meets 4-star OCOP standards.

In Quach Pham commune, there are currently 5 cooperatives and 7 cooperative groups. Of which, Ba Khia Dam Doi Cooperative has 6 products meeting OCOP standards (1 3-star product and 5 4-star products). This is an important step forward, enhancing the value of traditional products and expanding the consumption market, contributing to promoting the image of the homeland further in the future.

The diverse production models in Quach Pham commune not only help people increase their income but also reduce risks, bringing sustainable economic efficiency. "The commune always encourages people to boldly apply science and technology, diversifying production models suitable to local conditions. In the coming time, the commune will take advantage of support capital, technology, and consumption connections so that people's economic models can develop in a more sustainable and long-term manner," affirmed Mr. Tran Viet Tan, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Quach Pham Commune Party Committee./.
