For the first time, hundreds of children in the highlands were able to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in the true sense with lion dances, lantern parades, feasts, and gifts through the program “Mid-Autumn Festival for Children”. In the middle of the Truong Son mountains and forests, a bright moonlit season truly fulfilled the childhood of this place.
Full Mid-Autumn Festival
From the morning, the convoy of vehicles carrying students from Hue University of Economics and hundreds of Mid-Autumn gifts started rolling, passing nearly 100 km of mountain passes to reach A Luoi 4 commune, Hue city. The journey not only realized the dream of a complete Children's Day but also lit up hope and shared with children in the mountainous areas who still have many deprivations.
In the afternoon, groups of children chattered, dressed in beautiful clothes and hair bows, coming to the yard of Huong Lam Primary School, A Luoi 4 Commune. The sunlight filtered through the foliage, illuminating the children's radiant faces, along with the sounds of laughter, playing blind man's buff with the police officers and students from the lowlands.
The most anticipated part of the festival - the lion dance and Mid-Autumn Festival feast - began when the night fell. In the cold drizzle, the sparkling light of the star lanterns and the bustling drums made the atmosphere of the full moon night even more cozy. Many children were excited to play with Mr. Dia, a naughty boy even climbed on the back of the lion.
Having only seen the lion through textbooks, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram, a 5th grade student at Huong Lam Primary School, has now truly felt the joyful atmosphere of Children's Day. Touching the lion's head and dancing, Ngoc Tram excitedly said: "This year, I am very happy because my dream of meeting a lion has come true. Before the festival, I ran after some boys in the village to practice the lion dance, and when I heard the drums, my heart was filled with joy."
In particular, the joyful lion dances on the Mid-Autumn Festival night are the result of many days of enthusiastic practice by the children of the mountainous region of A Luoi 4. To prepare for the festival, every afternoon after school, the children gather at the communal police station yard to beat drums, gongs and practice lion dances. Nearly 20 children are absorbed in each movement, their shirts are soaked with sweat but their smiles are always bright.
The festival ended with a bustling feast. Each child held a brand new star lantern in their hands, the shimmering light illuminating their faces, sparkling with joy. The cheers, clapping, and the resounding drum beats made the mountain and forest atmosphere more bustling than ever.
Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, a student of class 5/2, shyly shared: "I don't often get to participate in the Mid-Autumn Festival. This year, my favorite thing is carrying the big star lantern with my friends. I wish to study well so that next year, the teachers and uncles will let me join the party again."
Lieutenant Nguyen Viet Hung, A Luoi 4 Commune Police, said: “We understand the disadvantages of children in the highlands, so we want to bring them not only the joy of Children's Day, but also the opportunity to approach traditional values. During the preparation process, seeing the children enthusiastically practicing the lion dance, we are more motivated. Hopefully, through activities like this, the children will be encouraged to study better, to become good children and good students as Uncle Ho taught.”
Loving heart
To bring Mid-Autumn Festival to the children in the mountainous areas, Lieutenant Nguyen Viet Hung has been on a tireless journey to call for donations from sponsors across the country. “I am very happy that my toys have reached you. I hope this small gift will bring you much joy on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival”, “I thank Uncle Hung for giving me the opportunity to do meaningful work”, “I send Uncle Hung my favorite car collection to the children in the A Luoi border.
“I hope you will enjoy it and have a happy Mid-Autumn Festival”… are the innocent and sincere messages from the children of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Primary School, old Ha Nam province (now Ninh Binh province). Just like that, Lieutenant Hung’s buses were filled with loving gifts, transported to the highlands of Hue.
In particular, Nguyen Minh Son, a 5th grader from Ha Nam, donated all of his toys, which were gifts he received for getting good grades. Minh Son also carefully cleaned and washed each toy before sending it to the children in the highlands. That innocent heart made the whole program even warmer.
The program “Mid-Autumn Festival for Children” was organized by the A Luoi 4 Commune Police in collaboration with the Social Work Association, Hue University of Economics and the Mobile Police Department Youth Union, Hue City Police. This is not only a festival but also a bridge of love and sharing between the lowlands and the highlands.
To contribute to the success of the program, the Social Work Association, Hue University of Economics, together with the commune police force, organized many fundraising activities such as small businesses, calling for support from benefactors. Every stage from preparation to organization of the program, the students did it with all their heart and enthusiasm.
Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, President of the Social Work Association, Hue University of Economics, confided: “When seeing the radiant joy on the faces of the children here, the members all understand the meaningful value and worth of all the past efforts. Each trip is a practical lesson. We learn how to organize and coordinate, practice management and operation skills, and at the same time understand more about sharing and social responsibility and have more motivation to contribute more”.
During the preparation process, the A Luoi 4 Commune Police force encountered many difficulties when having to mobilize a large amount of candy to give to more than 300 children in a short time; meanwhile, the amount of professional work was large. However, thanks to the specific assignment of tasks, the enthusiastic spirit regardless of the time of the commune police officers, the program "Mid-Autumn Festival for Children" was successful, becoming a beautiful memory for the children of A Luoi.
Lieutenant Nguyen Viet Hung said that before the festival for the children, the communal police force, mobile police and students helped the people of A Luoi 4 harvest rice, installed solar lights, security cameras and planted trees for the Paris Kavin village football field with the hope of having a useful and safe playground for the children to exercise and become future buds that are useful for their homeland.
Amidst the bustling sound of lion drums and the bright moonlight, innocent smiles become the most beautiful image of the moon season in the great forest. Mid-Autumn Festival 2025 not only brings childhood joy, but also spreads the spirit of sharing and connection between the police force, students and the community. For the children of A Luoi, it will be an unforgettable memory - a sparkling festival night, filled with human warmth, where all distances are erased in the clear laughter echoing across Truong Son.
