Need to collect garbage accumulated on the streets in Da Nang soon

The reason for the prolonged backlog of waste in recent times is that Huy Hoang Eco Environmental Joint Stock Company was previously discovered to have illegally buried more than 20,000 tons of waste. This serious violation of the law, threatening the living environment and public health, forced the authorities to force the above enterprise's factory to suspend operations to serve the investigation. Therefore, the Bac Quang Nam Domestic Solid Waste Treatment Plant had to stop receiving waste, leading to interruptions in waste collection.

According to observations by VNA reporters, hundreds of tons of household waste are currently piled up on many roads and residential areas in the communes and wards of Thu Bon, Dien Ban, Dien Ban Tay, Dien Ban Dong, An Thang, Dai Loc and the streets of Tran Nhan Tong, Tran Thu Do, Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Tat Thanh, Hung Vuong... in Da Nang city, emitting a foul smell, turning areas that used to be normal living areas into "hot spots" of pollution, causing people to worry and be upset.

Faced with the emergency, the local authorities of Thu Bon, Dien Ban, Dien Ban Tay, Dien Ban Dong, An Thang, Dai Loc mobilized all forces including environmental workers, militia, organizations and people to collect waste at collection points far from residential areas, to ensure the environment. At the same time, they called on people to sort waste at their households and not bring waste to collection points until there is a collection unit.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vy, Chairman of Dien Ban Dong Ward People's Committee, said that the locality had to implement a temporary plan to collect and transport solid waste to collection points far from residential areas within 1 month. The purpose is to ensure environmental sanitation in the coming time and minimize pollution caused by domestic waste.

Regarding the above-mentioned waste collection, a representative of Quang Nam Urban Environment Joint Stock Company, the waste collection unit, said that immediately after Huy Hoang Eco Environment Joint Stock Company announced to stop receiving domestic solid waste, the unit also stopped collecting to wait for the directive document from the local government. Therefore, currently, the domestic solid waste of the people is still pending and has not been completely processed. The unit also hopes to have a direction plan from relevant authorities so that the collection of waste to the collection site is safe and ensures the environment.

Recently, the People's Committee of Da Nang City has requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with communes and wards with domestic solid waste treated at the Bac Quang Nam Domestic Solid Waste Treatment Plant to study the adjustment, reception, and treatment of domestic waste at the plant to other domestic waste treatment areas in the city to ensure that waste collection and transportation take place continuously, avoiding environmental pollution.

Previously, on September 25, Da Nang City Police coordinated with the Department of Environmental Police ( Ministry of Public Security ) to discover that Huy Hoang ECO Environmental Joint Stock Company had illegally buried and dumped waste in Phu Quy village, Dai Loc commune, Da Nang city.

Initial investigation results determined that the factory received and treated domestic waste from several localities of the former Quang Nam province. However, from 2024 to present, this company has illegally collected and dumped more than 20,000 tons of waste (initial estimates) generated during the waste treatment process, seriously violating environmental protection laws.

The People's Committee of Da Nang City assigned the City Police to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment and relevant agencies and units to investigate and verify the entire process of domestic waste treatment at the Bac Quang Nam Domestic Solid Waste Treatment Plant in the past time; urgently clarify the acts and violations and strictly handle this enterprise in accordance with the law.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of the city is responsible for providing complete documents related to the Bac Quang Nam Domestic Solid Waste Treatment Plant to serve the investigation and handling process. In addition, research on receiving and handling plans to ensure environmental hygiene according to regulations for the volume of waste that this enterprise has dumped illegally.
