The highland cultural space is located next to the De Castries tunnel area.

Mr. Bui Quang Loi, a tourist from Thai Binh province, enthusiastically learned to beat the drum to the rhythm of xoe at the cultural space of the highlands of Muong Cha district. Then he held hands with everyone around him to perform xoe in solidarity. This was the first time he had been to Dien Bien and had contact with the culture of the ethnic minorities in the Northwest highlands.

Tourists enjoy learning how to make traditional patterns from beeswax by the Mong people in Tua Chua district.

Mr. Loi shared: “The culture of the ethnic groups here is very unique. Each ethnic group has its own characteristics, from the costumes that are already beautiful, to the musical instruments and dances that are also very special. Therefore, each space in this area is very attractive, I went to learn and experience each space. Our group's trip was short, the schedule did not go to the highland districts, we were lucky to come to Dien Bien on this special occasion to learn more about the cultures of many different ethnic groups.”

Locals and tourists dance together in the cultural space of the Khmu ethnic group in Muong Ang district.

The cultural space of Muong Ang district is also bustling with the sounds of drums, gongs, cymbals, and bamboo pipes. Muong Ang brings to the festival a cultural space typical of the Kho Mu ethnic group. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh, Director of the District Cultural - Radio - Television Center, said: “The Kho Mu are one of the four main ethnic groups of Muong Ang district. Here, we built a traditional stilt house with one staircase, one main door, two fireplaces, without a railing in front, recreating the entire living space of the Kho Mu people. Along with that is the traditional weaving profession that is different from other ethnic groups. To attract tourists, the district brings local artisans and art troupes to perform folk songs, folk dances, and folk music. In particular, we do not play pre-made music, but the artisans directly use traditional musical instruments on the spot.”

Traditional musical instruments are one of the attractions of every cultural space.

With such meticulousness, people and tourists from all over the world are absorbed in the dances and xoè dances. The cultural space of any district and any ethnic group has an irresistible attraction. This is also the common point of the participating units - recreating in the most authentic way the traditional cultural values of the ethnic groups in the area, through housing models, performing folk songs, folk dances, handicrafts, introducing unique culinary culture...

Thai ethnic people of Muong Lay town bring their unique culture to the festival.

Contributing to the attraction of each space are the local people. They come from remote villages here to perform, recreate daily life, and introduce and promote the beauty of their ethnic culture to visitors from afar. Mr. Sung A Pao, Sinh Phinh commune, Tua Chua district is one of the Mong artisans participating in the district's cultural space. He said: "I and a number of other artisans play the panpipe, dance with the panpipe, sometimes alone, sometimes in pairs or three. I don't remember how many times we perform each day. Although sometimes we are tired, seeing many people come to visit the district's cultural space, interested, curious about the panpipe, wanting to hear the sound of the panpipe, we are very happy, always ready to perform."

Dao ethnic women in Nam Po district teach each other traditional brocade embroidery.

It is known that there are 11 cultural spaces of districts, towns, cities in the province and the Provincial Museum. Each unit focuses on bringing a typical festival of a typical ethnic group in the area. For example, Tua Chua creates a space imbued with the Mong people, Tuan Giao introduces and promotes the culture of the Khang ethnic group, Muong Nhe stands out with the space of the Ha Nhi ethnic group, Muong Lay attracts tourists with the culture of the Thai people of the White Thai branch...

Tourists experience traditional Mong corn grinding.
