(CLO) Visitors to Nashville, Tennessee (USA) may soon be welcomed at an airport named after new President Donald Trump.

On January 17, Republican Congressman Todd Warner of Tennessee introduced House Bill 217, proposing to rename Nashville International Airport to Trump International Airport in honor of the President-elect.

The bill requires the metropolitan airport authority to take steps necessary to change the name, including installing new signage, updating registered trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), amending contracts and legal documents, and notifying local, state, and federal agencies.

During the transition period, the airport may use its current name along with the phrase "doing business as Trump International Airport" or "doing business as Trump International Airport."

If passed, the bill would take effect on January 1, 2026.

This is not the first time the idea of ​​naming an airport after former President Trump has been proposed. Previously, in April 2024, a group of Republican congressmen proposed renaming Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia after Mr. Trump.

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, the House Republican deputy leader, introduced the bill along with six co-sponsors.

“In my lifetime, our country has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump,” Reschenthaler previously said. “As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil.”

If approved, Trump International Airport would become the second airport in the Washington, D.C. area to bear the name of a Republican president, following Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia.

Congressmen Barry Moore and Paul Gosar also expressed support, stressing that honoring great presidents is appropriate and worthy.
