With nearly 165 thousand hectares, Dong Nai province has a large total annual crop area. In particular, the main crops with large areas in the province include: rice reaching nearly 59 thousand hectares, corn more than 38 thousand hectares, vegetables of all kinds more than 20.5 thousand hectares...
Summer-autumn crop prices are low, farmers have poor profits
In the summer-autumn crop, the rice cultivation area is usually the highest compared to other crops of the year. In the summer-autumn crop of 2025, the whole province will cultivate nearly 18,000 hectares of rice of all kinds, with an expected yield of more than 109,400 tons, estimated at 95.9% compared to 2024. Although the summer-autumn rice yield is guaranteed, the current rice price is lower than the same period every year, affecting farmers' profits.
In the 2025 summer-autumn crop, in addition to the 150ha of rice and corn grown by its members, Xuan Tien Agricultural Trade and Service Cooperative (Xuan Phu commune, Dong Nai province) also cooperates with rice farmers in many other localities with an area of about 500ha.
According to Mr. Tran Quang, Director of Xuan Tien Agricultural Service and Trade Cooperative, the cooperative is focusing on harvesting summer-autumn rice and corn. The yield and quality of harvested rice and corn are all good. However, only the specialty rice variety ST25 still maintains a good selling price, while many other rice varieties, especially regular rice varieties, have seen a sharp drop in price. Specifically, the price of regular rice sold in the field is currently fluctuating from 4-4.5 thousand VND/kg, about 2 thousand VND/kg lower than the same period last year. At this price, rice farmers have almost no profit. The price of corn kernels sold for more than 7 thousand VND/kg in the same period last year is now below 6 thousand VND/kg, which also greatly affects farmers' profits.
Dong Tay Cooperative (Xuan Dong Commune) specializes in growing corn to harvest the whole plant as raw material for processing animal feed for export. Since the beginning of 2025, export activities have been more difficult than every year because orders have decreased and transportation costs have increased, so the price of corn plants that the Cooperative buys from farmers has also decreased compared to every year. However, the model of growing corn plants still gives better profits than growing corn for grain.
Director of Dong Tay Cooperative Bui Trung Vinh Phuoc shared: In the summer-autumn crop of 2025, the cooperative's corn growing area will decrease compared to the same period in 2024, to only nearly 200 hectares. The cooperative is urgently harvesting the remaining corn area in parallel with land preparation and preparing for the new production season. The weather and irrigation water sources are favorable for farmers to plant the new crop.
Expectations for the new crop
It is expected that the 2025 winter-spring rice crop will have a slightly reduced planting area compared to the same period last year with an area of about 16,000 hectares, a decrease of about 8,000 hectares compared to 2024. According to rice and corn farmers in the province, this year, irrigation water is abundant and the weather is also more favorable for planting the winter-spring rice crop.

Mr. Tran Quang, Director of Xuan Tien Agricultural Service and Trade Cooperative, commented: Corn prices have decreased due to the difficulty in competing with cheap imported corn. Accordingly, in the 2025 winter-spring rice crop, the cooperative will increase the area planted with specialty rice varieties so that members can make good profits. This year, the rainy season came early, there was no drought like every year, so farmers are expected to plant the winter-spring rice crop about half a month earlier than every year.
Compared to other crops, rice is considered the main crop in ethnic minority areas, especially in the border districts: Bu Dop and the old Loc Ninh. In particular, from the capital of national target programs, most localities have invested in building irrigation canal systems and spacious internal traffic, thereby not only facilitating traffic, but also ensuring abundant irrigation water for 3 rice crops/year.
Mr. Lam On (residing in Soc Lon hamlet, Loc Hung commune) said: The hamlet has 98 hectares of rice land with many different varieties such as Dai Thom 8, OM4900, OM5451, ST24, ST25. His family has just sown 1 hectare of OM5451 for the 2025 winter-spring rice crop. Thanks to the convenient irrigation canal system, ensuring water source for 3 crops/year, the current rice yield and quality have increased compared to previous years.
According to vegetable farmers in the province, green vegetables and fruit vegetables are produced year-round to meet market demand, not seasonally. However, before Tet, vegetable farmers often plant more to ensure supply. Therefore, after the rainy season, farmers will prepare well for the Tet vegetable crop.
With many years of experience in growing rice, Director of Loc Khanh Quality Rice Cooperative (Loc Hung Commune) Thi Loc said: Winter-spring crop is considered a "golden" crop with warm, sunny weather, little rain, and few pests and diseases, so it is suitable for growing fragrant, high-quality rice varieties such as Dai Thom 8, ST24, ST25. In the remaining crops, due to the influence of "unpredictable sunny and rainy" weather, many pests and diseases appear, farmers should choose normal varieties such as OM5451 to ensure the safety of investment capital.
According to Ms. Loc, thanks to growing high-quality, safe rice, the clean rice products of the Cooperative have stable output with good prices. The new production season, abundant water resources and careful preparation have completed the planting of the winter-spring rice crop by the Cooperative members with the expectation of continuing to have a bumper crop.
