Since August 1, a historic flash flood has occurred in Bolikhamxay province (Laos), causing landslides and traffic congestion in the Dat Pass area (National Highway 8, about 80 km west of Cau Treo International Border Gate, Huong Son District, Ha Tinh Province). The landslide has caused a sharp decrease in import-export activities and vehicles entering and exiting through Cau Treo International Border Gate.

According to the Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Branch, in the past week (from August 1 to 7), there were 1,395 vehicles entering and exiting through Cau Treo International Border Gate (down 45% compared to the same period in July 2023). The Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Branch also received and opened 87 customs declarations (down 40% compared to the same period in July 2023) with an import-export turnover of more than 4 million USD (down 48% compared to the same period in July 2023).

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Minh - Deputy Head of the Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Branch said: "Due to landslides in Kham Cot district, Bolikhamxay province, businesses choose to take a detour through Viengthong district, Bolikhamxay province. This route is about 100 km further than through Cau Treo International Border Gate, but businesses do not have their goods circulation chain interrupted, especially for vehicles carrying transit goods. To support businesses, the unit has accompanied and created maximum conditions in carrying out customs procedures, regularly exchanging information online to handle problems during customs clearance."
According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Minh, Laos said that National Highway 8 through Khammouane district has 4 serious landslides that have caused the road to be cut off and will need time to repair.

Since the beginning of the year, Cau Treo International Border Gate Customs Branch has opened 5,818 declarations for 260 enterprises with a total import-export turnover of 303 million USD; thereby paying 473.6 billion VND to the state budget, reaching 92% of the target assigned by the Ha Tinh Provincial Customs Department in 2023. |
