The rise of Mai Hoa farmers in recent years is a clear demonstration of the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, not afraid to experiment with new economic models that bring high value, typically investing in unique livestock such as the civet farming model of Ms. Le Thi Quyen in Hop Phat village.
At the end of 2021, with technical guidance from relatives in Hai Phong and realizing the economic potential of this type of livestock, Ms. Quyen "poured" more than 1 billion VND to build a modern barn system, nearly 500 square meters wide, and bought 50 pairs of civets for breeding.

Thanks to the scientific care process, the model quickly brings high economic efficiency. Ms. Quyen excitedly shared: “In 2023, I sold the first batch of 25 pairs of civets, earning more than 600 million VND. Since the beginning of 2025, I have sold 40 pairs of civets, earning nearly 1 billion VND. Thanks to the stable consumption market, income is always guaranteed.”
Not only does it bring a stable income to her family, Ms. Quyen's mink farming model has also become a place for people in and outside the commune to visit and learn. "We are honored and willing to share our secrets so that people can support each other in economic development" - Ms. Quyen shared.

Once a poor household for many years, Ms. Le Thi Tam's family (Thanh Binh village) has risen to become a well-off household thanks to the timely support and assistance of the local government.
"In 2015, with the advice and support of the Commune Farmers' Association, the family borrowed 50 million VND from the Social Policy Bank with preferential interest rates. The family boldly cleared more than 1 hectare of mixed-tree garden to grow oranges. After many years of diligent care, the orange garden has brought about clear economic efficiency. Each crop, the family sells more than 10 tons of fruit to the market, with an average price of about 20,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, the annual revenue reaches nearly 200 million VND. To increase income, the family also raises buffaloes, cows and chickens," Ms. Tam recounted.
Thanks to the hard-working hands and the wholehearted help of the Commune Farmers' Association, Ms. Tam's family has had a prosperous life, becoming an example and motivation for people in the village to learn and strive to improve.

In addition to traditional models, some farmers have boldly applied high-tech agriculture to production. A typical example is the family of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Ky in Cao Phong village - who decided to build a model of growing melons in greenhouses in his hometown to develop the economy.
According to Mr. Ky, thanks to his experience growing melons while working in the South, in early 2023, he was determined to realize his intention of starting a business in his hometown. Accordingly, he boldly borrowed capital from relatives and invested nearly 300 million VND to build a model. In early 2024, he started growing melons on an area of nearly 1,000m2 in a greenhouse.
“Thanks to previous experience in growing melons, the family's melon areas have grown well and produced fruit regularly. In particular, in order to produce the best quality melons, the family has grown them according to VietGAP standards, from greenhouse environment treatment, seed germination, watering, etc., ensuring safety and environmental friendliness," said Mr. Ky.
According to Mr. Ky, thanks to strictly following technical requirements, his family's melon crops all have high yields, each crop brings in over 150 million VND in revenue. In particular, this model has opened up a new direction for clean, high-quality agriculture in the locality.

From the plots of land that previously only grew corn with low productivity, Mai Hoa commune has boldly changed the crop structure, forming cooperatives specializing in growing Tai Loc cucumbers in association with enterprises with an area of nearly 5 hectares in village 1 - Van Giang and village 2 - Bong Giang. Although only planted on a trial basis, Tai Loc cucumbers have initially shown good adaptation to local climate and soil conditions, promising a bumper crop.
Mr. Dinh Van Nghia (village 1 - Van Giang) said: "Previously, our land was mainly used for growing corn, with low productivity and income just enough to cover expenses. Since the commune mobilized us to switch to growing Tai Loc cucumbers under the cooperative model, we have been supported with seeds, techniques and output commitments. This variety of cucumber is quite easy to grow, has few pests and diseases, and is especially suitable for Mai Hoa's soil. The plants grow quickly, the fruit is even and the enterprise accepts to consume the product, without worrying about output. This creates a great motivation for people to continue expanding the area and confidently invest in production."

According to statistics from the People's Committee of Mai Hoa commune, thanks to the spirit of striving to get rich of the people, the commune has now built more than 500 economic models with income of over 100 million VND/year or more, such as: the model of growing peony grapes of more than 1,200m2 of Mr. Nguyen The Hoan's family (Binh Phong village); the pig farm with a scale of 500 pigs/batch of Mr. Nguyen Tien Manh's family in village 1 - Bong Giang; the model of growing oranges combined with growing Binh Du persimmons on an area of more than 3 hectares of Ms. Tran Thi Nguyet in Yen Du village...
Mr. Pham Ngoc Tao - Chairman of Mai Hoa Commune People's Committee said: "The strong and diverse development of economic models in recent years has turned Mai Hoa from a purely agricultural commune with many difficulties in livelihoods into a bright spot in the province's enrichment movement. The rate of poor households has decreased significantly, and per capita income has grown steadily. To achieve these results, the commune has focused on implementing many synchronous solutions, including promoting propaganda, mobilizing, and encouraging people to change the structure of crops and livestock, especially introducing varieties with high economic value, suitable for local soil conditions into production. At the same time, focusing on transferring science and technology, organizing training courses, and turning typical models into learning points for replication".
According to Mr. Tao, in the coming time, Mai Hoa will continue to focus on building value chains for key products such as oranges, pineapples, persimmons, etc. and specialty livestock products. At the same time, the commune will continue to create conditions such as supporting loans and techniques for high-tech agricultural models and organic agriculture to ensure sustainable economic development and further improve the quality of life for the people.
